Hi there. I registered here to find out about BIOS modding possibilities for HP notebooks, specifically Pavilion series (but I don't think it works differently for the rest - if it's possible). I have this Pavilion dv7 notebook which I am pretty unhappy with because of the complete lack of control over everything. I am sure I could make it work much better if I had access to all the stuff desktop users normally do.
Is it possible to mod BIOS for these notebook at all? I don't know anything about it, but I am fairly sure it's no rocket science as long as one knows what is he doing, so I would welcome some basic tips about tools used for this, and probably some general resources to study.
Of course, if there are modders out here who could do it for me, even better - but that would only be a bonus. I am willing to learn all the stuff myself.

Short Answer: Yes it's possible to mod the BIOS.
Key phrase in your post; " as long as one knows what is he doing".

Your best course is to go here and request a BIOS mod via the forum. Warning! If the modded BIOS bricks your computer you should be prepared and know how to restore the old BIOS. Read through the forum and learn. If you toast your unit, you must understand that modders hold "NO" responsibility.

It's a noble quest and I wish you luck, but never under estimate the skills and knowledge it takes to do these mods successfully.

    Best, Dave

While I was waiting for any replies, I learned the answer is no, in my specific case at least. Reason - the BIOS is RSA signed.
