It seems the glossy screen is known to make the viewing angles worse and how bad is the reflection? Would you be in pretty bad shape if you used your notebook outside? Are the upsides easily outweighing the downsides you think?

It's the matter of personal preference and usage of your notebook.
I've tried both. Glossy (brightview etc) definitely makes colors more
vivid, but HPs matte (regular) display is really nice too.

Right now, I'm using L2000 with brightview. I can see the reflection
of a tall floor lamp on the upper right side of display. Somefolks are
bothered by this, some are not.

Outdoors, there is more reflection but the screen does look clear.
Overall, I'm still the old fashioned matte, regular LCD guy.

Almost everyone with the BrightView screen will tell you that the positives outweigh the negatives.

I just go my R4000 with brightview, and I'm having second thoughts! The glare and reflections are beyond what I imagined - of course, this is all personal preference. I had checked it out in the store first, but I think the high ceilings and lights didn't give me a true feeling for what it would be like in a normal office/home setting with normal sized rooms, lighting, windows, etc. The screen is BEAUTIFUL, but for me, I am seriously considering going back to mattte finish...

Almost every DV1000 in retail stores will have the BrightView screen. The best way for you to get a matte screen is by custom ordering one through www.hpshopping.com. Even with all the glare and such these type of screens cause, they seem to be pretty darn popular. Almost every manufacturer is moving towards these type of screens.

I got BV in the L2000 and think it's pretty good. HP's BV isn't the best enhanced display out there, but it's pretty strong. As for reflection, it doesn't bother me at all and most of it can be fixed by changing the angle.

Don't Sony's enhanced X-Brite displays shows less reflection than those on other computers??

Averatec is a bit confusing on theirs. On their 1000 and 4000 series, they list the display as "AveraBrite", yet the 1000's display has the matte look, and the 4000 has the glossy look.

I absolutly love the screen on the 1000, it is one of the, if not the best screens I've ever seen. The reason people go for these new glossy screens is that the display looks brighter and the colors more vivid. Yet they all dislike its reflective properties. The 1000's screen is matte, so there's none of that mirror effect, yet its display is much brighter and vibrant than other matte screens, its a enhanced matte screen, I just love it! Anyone else seen the screen on it?

    Rahul,

dv1000 brightview is matte? That's not what I saw in bestbuy.
If it's the same display as brightview in L2000, there is some reflection
depending on room light, viewing angle. You can't completely eliminate it.

I completely agree that colors are vivid and contrast is better with
brightview. Again depends on personal pref.

A good article on difference of matte vs glossy

No, I mean the Averatec 1000 has a matte screen, not the HP DV1000. Sorry if I confused you.
