Is it worth paying the premium for HP Spectre X360 Ash Silver?

    Hello folks from Notebook Review,

I am currently looking to buy a HP Spectre X360. I honestly don't think I need the i7 so I'm looking to i5 256 GB SSD, 5th or 6th generation. The thing is I see the new Ash Silver color and I'm honestly buying into the hype that it's the most beautiful laptop yet, but am really conflicted about how much extra you need to pay for it.

I'm perfectly content buying a used/refurbished HP Spectre X360 i5 that sells for around ~650-700 on ebay, but will have to dish out $1300 (since I can't seem to find them on ebay since they're still new). So if I do end up buying this, I want to know I can be using it for ~10+ years to be worthwhile.

    So my questions are:

    1) How long do you think getting the HP Spectre X360 (Ash Silver) 6th Gen i7 256 GB SSD will last until I would need to get a replacement?

    2) I currently have Macbook Pro 2010 2.66 Ghz i7 8GB with an Nvidia GT 330M 512 MB Graphics card, and I'm now not sure whether the new laptop will be an improvement (My main reason I wanted to switch was for less weight), or whether I should keep my macbook for now. Would the fact that my current laptop has a seperate graphics card make it better than the spectre?

    3) Should I really be dishing out ~$600+ extra for a different color and unwanted specs?

    4) Do you think I can wait for these to eventually be selling on craigslist/ebay for lower prices, or will the "limited edition" keep these used versions off the market?

    Thank you,
    Ed

I just purchased the HP Spectre x360 FHD 8GB 256GB SSD in natural silver from BestBuy for $999 on sale. I just noticed the ash silver / copper version for $300 more with similar specs.

I am not willing to spend more for just looks and I do have a concern about long term wear on the coloration.

The natural silver is silver all the way through, so scratches and wear marks should stay silver.

Stuff that I have that is darker colored tends to show wear more quickly.

I love the workmanship on the Spectre. It has a great keyboard and screen.

The integrated GPU would be a pretty nice improvement over the GT330. As for the CPU, it depends if you have the dual-core or quad-core i7.

The all said, I'm a pragmatic man and I could never bring myself to spend several hundred dollars on a notebook pain job. For that sort of money, it should make me breakfast every morning to be worth it :p.
