Okay guys, I am still kind of hauling the burden of sluggishness in Dv6500 since the day I got it. It would have been back to HP had I been paying for this laptop out of my own pocket. After changing Vista X64 ultimate to XP Pro 32bit, changing RAM from 2 to 4GB (alas XP can not enjoy the full 4GB) my dv6500 is still slow, compared most of the modern laptops I have ever used. My 300 dollar C770US from Compaq with half the spec works faster. Anyway, I think it is my hard drive which is acting like the bottleneck and see the result from HDtach below. Can someone verify on their dv6XXX series that my drive is indeed slow?

It's on the lower end, but it should not slow down the performance to a $300 compaq.

I'd say, good hdtach chart for the drive that you've got, but there are some more recent drives that give out nearly 1.5x the performace of that yours.

Dv6500 is a great mystery (misery) to me. I know it has all raw power to be an excellent machine but it just does not. I feel that I/O has some sort of problem which is not very evident from common software based tests.

There are a lot of models around, but I (personally) only know some older models.

You might be better off starting a thread in the Hardware Components and Aftermarket Upgrades about what you want if you don't get any answers here.

Try to be as specific as you can about what you want (ie. Capacity of hard drive, speed and specifying your notebook model again).
