If it is a Centrino there should be a sticker on there saying so.

firstly, what chipset does it use? and what wireless card does it have?

for it to qualify to use the Centrino Marketing Monicker it must have the following components:

*an Intel Pentium M Processor (Banias or Dothan)
*an Intel 855GM / 910GML / or 915GM (or any of the variants of the 855 and 900 chipset series)
*an Intel 2200 Pro Wireless Card (whether wifi B or G)

if any one of the 3 components is missing, it cannot use the Centrino Marketing name.

heck, one could have a notebook with an intel 910 chipset, intel 2200 wifi and a celeron M and it DOES NOT qualify as a Centrino Product. maybe a "Centrino Lite" hehehe

but in my point, its no big deal if its a centrino system or not; in some cases other 3rd party chipset and wifi card will give you more performance.

    :buyIBM: :centrino:

You will have a Centrino sticker on your notebook, if you don't, then you'll have a Pentium M sticker.. Also, its not a big deal to have Centrino technology. Many people say that non-Intel cards work better than Intel ones. Pairing up an Intel processor with an Intel wireless card doesn't mean better performance. You'll do just as good if not better with a non Intel wireless card.

My first notebook had an Atheros wireless card and my current one an Intel one. Personally, I've found no difference in them, they both perform flawlessly and very quickly.

My Dv4000 has the ATI X700 GPU and it came with the "Centrino" sticker...maybe it has the intergrated graphics but doesn't use it? Or maybe the Centrino standards are flexible and subject to the marketing needs of large customers (like HP)...

The graphics have nothing to do with Centrino. And no, they wouldn't give you a motherboard with integrated graphics, disable it, and then stick in a very nice dedicated graphics card.

Centrino it's more advertising than quality, i preffer a Atheros or Broadcom for wireless card. You got a Pentium M processor and this is enough.

    centrino = chipset,
pentium m = the chip of centrino

if your getting confused if you have a celeron? no u dont have a celeron you have a pentium m which belongs to the centrino family which is pentiums notebook chipset.

Now I'm confused. The following is from the Centrino Guide posting in the Dummies forum here at NotebookReview.com :

There are currently two main chipsets in circulation on the Centrino platform, and they're most easily distinguished by which integrated graphics core they use. Alternatively, if a notebook uses DDR2 instead of conventional DDR, you can be sure it's an Alviso.

    855/865 CHIPSET (ODEM)

    Single-Channel DDR333 RAM
    PCI/AGP
    SoundMAX Audio
    Intel Extreme Graphics 2

This seems to indicate that the intel intergrated graphics solution is part of the Centrino standard... or am I miss reading this.

i believe you need 3 things to qualify as centrino, they are.
    Intel® Pentium® M processor
    Mobile Intel® 915 Express chipset family or Intel® 855
    chipset family
    Intel® PRO/Wireless Network Connection Family
the graphics are not part of centrino. i would say yes your laptop is centino. you know you've got 2 of the 3. go into control panel, systems, hardware, device manager to find out if you have the intel chipset.

I was confused on the graphics part too, but trust me, the graphics processor doesn't determine whether its Centrino or not. Basically, if it has a Pentium M processor and an Intel wireless card, the notebook will have a Centrino sticker, regardless if it has Intel integrated graphics or some dedicated video card. And like I've said before, having Centrino is not a big deal at all. You only see Centrino commercials on TV so you'll end up buying a computer with Intel's wireless card.

Thanks to all for giving me nice information.
My laptop came with 915GM Chip set, Pentium-M and Intel wireless Lan, but i was bit confussed when they label as P-M.

    Hopefully i laptop is Centrino.
    am i right? :)
