    Hi,
Everyone on this forum has been so helpful with other issues I've had, thank you! I hope someone can shed some light on this.

I've had my dv1000 for about 18 months and it has been a flawless machine until a couple of days ago. It was in hibernate mode and I started it up as usual and everything was fine.

I had some work I was going to do so I thought I would plug it into the charger and I left it for 5-10 mins. When I came back it was completely off! I tried to turn it on a couple of times and nothing. I unplugged it from the charger and took the battery out put it back in and plugged the charger back in and still nothing but I noticed a low but high pitched whine coming from the charger block. I unplugged it right away and plugged it into my other charger... same thing and then I got a faint whiff of that unmistakeable electronic burning smell coming from the exhaust vent. There was no smoke or anything and as soon as I unplugged it from the charger the smell was gone.

I took the keyboard, memory, hd and cd rom drive out to see if I could see anything and it all looked fine. No dust and no burning smell.

It's out of warranty and my question at this point is do I take it apart further to look at the cpu and mb? Does anyone have any ideas of what could have happened and if it could be fixed?

It just seems so strange that it would be completely fried after I had been using it earlier that morning and everything was fine.
