the dv2500 wasn't included in that service enhancement. connect it to a external monitor see if you get a picture. Do you have a Nvidia 8400m Card in this notebook?

it wasn't included there :( i've also tried external VGA and HDMI but the problem still persist, my windows boots normally and it's configured to immediate display when output connected :(. but the thing i've noticed tht the low level booting wasn't displayed, it must be displayed since no driver controls this. about GPU yes i've n8400m and i read the symptoms of the defect they said tht the screen must had no light but my screen lights are on.

Try taking out your battery pack and AC power.

Hold the power button for 30 seconds.

Now try starting up again with only AC power.

flipfire, resetting the BIOS won't help, I'm pretty sure. The way his laptop failed looks exactly the same as it has happened to many others with GF8400 in their HP machines.

It has the same symptoms as the USB bug, wont boot up, the screen just lights up.

Wouldnt hurt to do basic diagnostics.

Did you press FN+6 or whatever the switch screen button is when you plugged in the external monitor?

Call up HP anyway and tell them your Nvidia card has failed. Be persistent and persuasive, a case manager might honor the extended warranty even though your model isnt listed.

i just went through the same ordeal call hp like flip said and tell them you have a defective 8400 make sure you get to a case manager they are the only ones who "know" about the defect. the cards seem to all be dying at the same time, this is the 3rd dv2500 thread with a dead card i've seen in less than a month.

YOU HAVE JUST BEEN F'D BY HP AND THE 8400.

    Welcome to the club.

Man oh man when I get stateside... I am going to unleash heL

Call the dbags up and go apeshT on them. That's my plan.

Speaking of which, guys, do I have a better chance of getting the 8400 repaired or them sending me out a new system? Do they even make these pieces anymore?

The really F'D part is that this system is the bloody replacement system for the original F'D machine.

yea it sucks, there just going to replace the blown 8400 with another crappy 8400 thats going to die. then they install the latest bios update to make your fan work overtime to prolong the disaster from happening again

My first dv2000 with a 7200GO died within 6months (definite defect)

My second dv2000 came with integrated, been alive for a year now.

My third, dv2500 with 8400m GS has been alive for 1 year 3months now. I overclock it often and stays in good temps, its got the copper mod and its undervolted.

How the heck you manage to undervolt the bloody thing? I had the POS underclocked to 200/300 (50%) but evidently that did shT else.

The copper mod sounds like it would actually help, although taking apart the laptop sounds like a major pain in the aS.

But ya... what sort of temperatures did you get? Be really interesting to know just in case the SOBs send me the same 8400 back but fixed- doing the copper mod would probably be the very first thing I would do if it dropped the temps down considerably.

But I am going to keep screaming until the SOBs send me a new laptop... at least that's the plan anyway. lolz.
