    Compaq V2410US
    AMD Turion 64 ML-30

My fan runs for about 10-15 seconds every 20 to 40 seconds just reading this message board and surfing the net.

And this is on AC power. I'm not sure about battery power.

Is there something wrong with this computer/cpu? or is this normal?

    Thanks for your help

    I forgot to ask

Is this something RMClock takes care of?

First would be to check what your power scheme set to. For most people it's set to "Portable/Laptop", which automatically increase/decrease the speed of CPU. (varies from 800Mhz to 1.6Ghz for ML-30)

If it's set to "Always On", then the CPU always run at high speed(1.6 Ghz). As you know faster speed means hotter CPU.

RMClock is used to undervolt and manage your own p-state transitions. If you use RMClock, you would have to set the power scheme set to "Always on". Check the L2000 undervolting thread for more info.

In "portable/laptop" mode...does the run time and intervals of my fan appear normal?

    Thanks fill2k

Let me give you guys some more data to see if this fan is running away with itself

I am in "portable/laptop" mode on the power scheme and I can see my cpu usage is from 0% to 5% and this fan runs for 10 to 15 seconds...every 20 to 40 seconds.

does this appear normal? anyone? anyone?

the latest BIOS from compaq makes the fan on less frequent.
if you already have this then RMclock will help.

every 20-40 secs does seems to be a lot. check your cpu temp using Mobilemeter.

Also, Neero is right. F.13 BIOS makes the fan run less frequent.

Also, make sure you have no spywares running in the background.

Right, Internet Security is supposed to protect you from Viruses, internet attacks, & in the case of the Anti-Spyware Edition, protect you from spywares.

Look for something else. Run msconfig, and check the Startup tab and check what programs are "enabled" (loads automatically).

If you haven't aleady, undervolting helps battery heat dissipation, fan cycling, and ESPECIALLY battery times. Search the forums and you will see many Turion undervolting threads.

thankyou nathanhuth for this information .. the v2000z is a great notebook but it's just one of those notebooks that needs a bit of tweaking/updates to have the best performance. It has greatly improved since i got mine last july.

The fan will kick off even if you do all of those. You have to undervolt the Turion based laptop in order to get a nice, quite CPU
