It seems like they haven't updated their notebook line in a while, I'm anticipating new models before the end of the year, but I am a couple of days away from ordering a ZT3000. Buy now, or wait just a bit more? What do you think?

If you can hold off a bit, you may want to wait until the end of the year, if not for new models, at least for better prices (holiday specials).

Are you set on getting the ZT3000 or are there alternatives? If you're not set, try taking a look at the Acer Travelmate 4501WLMi. I think it'll offer more of a value vs the HP.

That's a great suggestion Venombite. Cheaper, more powerful, similiar mobility, and I don't sacrifice aesthetics. The ZT is looking less and less appealing! I can't seem to find any specs on the 4500's screen though. I want at least an SXGA because I'm a game artist, I do graphics for a living so I'm particular about that aspect. :D

    Babas,

The best thing to do, is to post what it is you are going to be using the notebook for, so members can give the best recommendations possible that will be suited to your needs. Also list your mobility requirements (if any), and the budget you have to work with. You may want to read the 'What should I buy FAQ', in the hardware section.

    Cheers,

    Stevo

Office Depot has $230 off CTO Compaq Presarios tomorrow. Is there any reason to wait until the end of the year? Do seasonal deals get much better than that?

This is what I was thinking of ordering:

Compaq Presario R3000Z series customize notebook
    - Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Home Edition with SP2
    - AMD Athlon(TM) XP-M 3000+ (1.60 GHz/256K L2 cache)
    - 15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen(1280x800)
    - 32MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(TM) 4 420 Go
    - 256MB DDR SDRAM (1x256MB)
    - 40 GB 4200 RPM Hard Drive
    - DVD/CDRW Combo Drive
    - FREE Upgrade to 54g(TM) Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN !!
    - Microsoft(R) Works/Money
    - 12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery

for $800 (shipping included), I think its hard to beat. (Is there anything I really should upgrade? I'm looking for a low cost/good value laptop.)

    Kambul,

Just thought I would put a suggestion out there...depending on whether you want to have this be a useful laptop for some time to cime, I would look into more memory...maybe 512 x 1 or also a processor with a larger cache. I don't know what the bus speed is but if it's not mentioned, it's probably not quite 400MHz. If not, hey, $800 for a laptop is very reasonable. Best of luck.
