    Is the 256mb of the 7600 go memory shared?
    or is it
    128 dedicated and 128 shared?
    or all of the 256mb is dedicated?

    im gonna buy the dv8000t

    and it comes with the nvidia geforce 256mb 7600 go.

    so i was wondering about that card and its 256mb memory and how its devided

    AFAIK all 256mb of the NVidia 7600 go is dedicated. What makes you guys think it uses shared memory?

    I'm afraid your wrong, its 256 dedicated, and it will add another 256 on for turbocache, either that or its 128 dedicated and another 128 shared

    Guys, a video card can have different amounts of dedicated memory. The Go7600 in the dv8000 has 128 dedicated and up to 128 more shared (just look up HP's site for the official specs). The Go7600 in, say, the Compal HGL30 has 256Mb dedicated. And the Go7600 in the ASUS F3Jm has 512Mb dedicated. It depends on the manufacturer.

    What about the 9000z? I assume since it says "discreet" (the description on Costco's site) rather than "dedicated", 128 of it is dedicated, and 128 is a discreet portion of the RAM.

    The Go7600 in the dv8000t is 256mb dedicated memory, regardless of what HP's site says.

    I'm planning on ordering one within a month or so. I figure I'm this close, I'm going to wait for the Merom processor.

    I start school 9/25, so I have a little while. After being a sys admin for 8 years, I've decided to go back and try something new. So I want to get a nice laptop to go with me. My old Sony is still kicking for the mean time though.

    Yep, it's all dedicated. "Discreet graphics" is just another way to say it's got a real video card (no matter how powerful) instead of an integrated graphics chip. :)
