I contacted the HP and they refuse to give me such info, I do know why  . Since I do not want to open my laptop to find out, I was wondering if someone among you know if is possible to upgrade the CPU without replacing the motherboard

Anything which was sold with the dv5t series should be compatible. What do you currently have in it? P7350?

BTW the Service Manual is kind of old since on page 102 talks about the old T8xx and T9xx. It does not mention anything about the Pxxx series

The P8600 a well as the up to T9800 should work fine as long as it is a motevina (platform) compatible cpu.

Dont worry about the cpu info on the spec sheet, those are only the inital model number that HP and other OEM's tend to provide inaccurate information. Just look up the cpu currently offered with the dv5t SE in the US version of HP.com. Any of those cpu's should be compatible as well as the ones which they offered before. Just make sure you have the latest bios installed before doing the upgrade.

What about the BIOS ? Do you think that the latest BIOS is able to handle the P8600 or higher? Where can I buy the CPU?

Per your request I checked the dv5t SE and looks like the higher I can go is the P8600, which is almost the same performance than my P8400 not a high difference :(

I upgraded mine CPU to the T9400. I believe you can put a T9600 in this as well as they where sold in the beginning. The latest BIOS will support those.

I think a good option as Rozwell says is the T9600, also you can go for the P9600, which should work also...

It goes upto T9800 but any reason you feel the need for the upgrade, the P8400 is quite good in the first place. You are probably going to pay a premium price for pretty much anything above P8600.

If you have the money, and want to do a nice upgrade, try to upgrade to the P9600 2.66GHZ, if you look around you could get it around $375 (I think) give or take...and of course you could take the one you have and sell it here or even on ebay.

    Hi,
I was just wondering if someone had tried to upgrade a DV5 to a T9900 or x9100 cpu ? Or do you know if the DV5 was available with one of those two cpus it was still on sale on hp.com ?

    Thanks !
