Hi,
Through the countless postings of many people on this forum board who have sent in their Laptops for RMAs, I have never read a posting where HP actually sent a Tech On-Site to replace/fix their hardware issues. In fact, I have even read posts that say that if it was anything hardware related, HP will send you a shipping label to send in your unit for a RMA.
I have recently ordered a HP laptop, and wonder if the above facts are indeed true? I had assumed that by purchasing an On-Site warranty service, I would avoid having to send in my laptop for an RMA, thus saving me lost time from the whole RMA shipping process , and also avoiding the chance that my laptop would suffer more RMA related damages.
I was a previous Dell laptop owner, and though I realise that each manufacturer has some issues, their On-Site service was really true. Each time I had an issue with my laptop, they would send a tech within a day or two together with the replacement parts( Mobo or GFx card in my case) to my location.
Please do let me know if anyone of you had a tech come down on site to your location for such repairs in the lifetime of the ownership of your HP laptop, or did you always have to ship it in for RMAs.
Thank you.

Ok, this worries me.
Since I posted earlier today, not a single person has responded that said that a HP tech actually came on-site to resolve their hardware issues.....
Does this confirm that what many people have said about the HP on-site warranty service is true? That, for any thing hardware related, HP will ask you to send it in for an RMA even though you purchased the on-site warranty service......
I am really hoping someone would prove me wrong. But than again, if 1 out of 10 people actually responds and says that an on-site repair actually occured, than it still means that HP rarely if ever honors their on-site service.
Could it be the HP On-site warranty service is a total sham? -
It really depends on where you live.
The onsite warranty work like this, HP has partnership with some local repair store, when you reported you have hardware issues, HP will send parts to your local store, then , those guys will come to your house and help you repair your laptop
So, it's really up to your location
I wouldn't say they are better or worse than depot warranty,
But I guess, those onsite guys have less experiences with HP's laptop , especially envy series...So what they will do is, go to hp.com , download manual , then try to open your case up -
I assume you are speaking of HP consumer grade laptops.
As I understand it the HP on site for their consumer products will cover replacement of the drives, memory, keyboards and in some cases the LCD. Everything else is a trip to the service depot. -
I agree that sometimes onsite services can send inexperienced techs, but at the end of the day, if that service fails, they are quick to send another tech with the hardware components to ensure the issue was fixed. In fact, in my own experience, The hardware parts were always sent to me and the tech just came to install or replace the parts. Onece they even sent me double the parts and left one extra set with me(A mobo and GPU). I even heard some others have even asked the tech not to do the repair and just got the shipped parts to fix their precious laptops themselves.
The benefits of a true On-Site service pays for itself an many ways:
1) The time saved($$ saved if laptop was your workhorse)compared to a 2-3 week shipping RMA service.
2) You are there to observe the repair, and ensure the issue is resolved before the tech leaves. In an RMA, sometimes after a 2-3 week wait, the laptop comes back with the same issue...or even worst, more RMA related damages. Not to mention a second round of RMA....
3) The On-Site service experienced by me always gets a tech sent out within 2 business days. Compared to a shipping label being sent to you and you having to ship it off somewhere for an unkown period of time.
In fact, the shipping RMA service posted by some on this thread reminds me of the same exact RMA fear issues faced by those in the Asus Thread.
I just assumed that HP's On-Site warranty service would be truly an on-site warranty service.
Guess if I owned a consumer standard laptop from HP, I would sincerely hope that it will always be issue free with no need for RMA.
Is the HP On-Site warranty really worth-it?
