I sent my notebook to the HP mail-in repair service. Does this service repair the notebook completely by making it work as before the malfunction?

They will repair/replace which ever parts were having issues. You should be receiving it back fully functional.

What Flipfire says is the way it's supposed to happen, and probably does in most cases. HP sent my nearly new laptop to Georgia (U.S.) for repair. It came back in 5 days with the initial problem fixed (failed heatsink fan), but really mangled. Scratches, a chip, abrasions, etc. on the cover and solvent everywhere, including solvent fingerprints all over the screen. So look it over carefully. Call them immediately if it comes back damaged, and save the shipping box - you might need it for evidence (HP tried to blame FedEx).
From what I've read here, the European repair facilities are better.. -
I would avoid mail-in at all costs...returned laptops generally are not in as good a condition as you sent it out.
Highly recommend any "at home" service/warranty you can get. -
My own experience was that it was quick and efficient. Unfortunately, not all are having this experience. So as they say, YMMV.

I just got a 3 year mail-in warranty with my new HP dv6000.
Hopefully, I won't have any problems *knock on wood*, but if I do, I'll just try to take it to the IT guys at my college campus.
What about hardware issues though? Would local computer repair shops be able to fix those, or will I have to send the ruddy thing in for that? -
If it's Carnegie Mellon you go to, I'm sure you could find a student/staff member who could fix pretty much any problems you could have with your laptop ;/ -
So the quality of the mail-in repair service is like a lottery. I want to believe that my notebook will be handled and repaired well as in most cases.
I definitely don't want to be in the other side of the statistics. -
HP warrany coverage = crap. I sent in one of my notebooks and it took 3 months to get back. I had a bad hard drive and they sent me the wrong one. That's the tip of the iceburg.
HP service blows. Great laptops tho. -
I always find Onsite warranty superior to pick up and return as you can check the parts they bring in and monitor the way they repair your notebook so they can't scratch it or pry it open with the screwdriver.
Having said that, in Australia, the service is mostly OK. I've had a Presario V3000 sent in for repairs recently (the overheated motherboard fiasco) and it returned in excellent scratchless condition, wiped clean of fingerprints too. All within the same week (4 working days RTT).
I believe the HP service in Europe is pretty good too. Basically, all the HP horror stories are from the US. Outside the US, their service quality is often rated pretty highly, especially in Asia-Pacific markets.
Is the HP mail-in repair good?
