Hey guys... been a long time lurker here and reading up. I've been wanting to get a DV5T and been wondering if the WSXGA+ High-Definition HP BrightView Infinity Display is worth it compare to the regular screen?

Thanks in advance! Also, if you have pictures of your laptop with the Infinity display that would be great too!

Eh. Only if you've run out of other things to upgrade. I have it on my dv4z (retail model). It looks kinda neat but it increases glare.

It's really just a piece of glass over the screen. No real benefits of it, though it does increase the glare.

    It's not even glass :p it's plastic...

it's more of a cosmetic addition... makes the front bezel more seamless... but it adds more glare...

As others have said, it's not really any difference other than it the screen behind a piece of plastic to make the whole screen lift look more smooth and easier to clean. The glare is increased as well.

People...After owning and returning the Infinity Display, it is completely useless if you want any portability. You can't sit outside by the pool, on the beach or ANYWHERE in the sun! The Infinity Display is like a mogwai...Don't expose it to light or water.

While it does look nicer inside in dark light, it is definitely not worth the usability you will lose.

I beg you DO NOT BUY THE INFINITY!

I have the infinity screen and the one thing I will warn you about is when you have your laptop closed. Be careful not to put too much pressure on the screen from the outside of the casing. What I mean is with the screen down if you put too much pressure, the keys from the keyboard can and probably will cut into the glass. I have seen this numerous times on flip cell phones and other devices that have the screen overlapping the keys. The HDX16T comes with a soft fabric cloth to slide your laptop on, but I actually lay it on the keyboard and close the screen on top of it. Once you scratch the screen, it does NOT come off.

Another nightmare scenario is if dust or anything gets underneath the glass there is no way you can get rid of it. I have seen alot of post that complain about this issue. Who cares about the dust near the bezel when compared to dust that is trapped infinitly under glass?

I also like mine, but I never use my laptop at the beach or by the pool .

Anyway, it's no milestone in laptop design, that's for sure.

It has its pro's and cons like everything. Looks cooler, acts as a protector, but ads glare and some slight weight.

As far as at the beach.....lol I dont think I would ever take my laptop to a beach that sounds like a bad idea. Or too close to a pool. But yes, it does add some glare......

Oh sorry forgot to say.....I dont think I would pay the $50 for it though ontop of everything else, it just came with the hdx16....for $50 keep your money, for free I'd take it.

    Hi

    Lookout for the Infinity display

I have had my dv7 with infinity display for about 5 weeks. Purchased new.

It has dust behind the screen HP said it is not a warranty issue. I will not be taking no for an answer.

The laptop is new and in an environment that has little dust. If dust can get in it is a design fault, or a build quality issue.

I am very dissapointed at this point with HP service.

As well at the bottom left and right of the screen you can see scratch marks caused by the screen coming into contact with the speker grill on the keyboard pannel.

HP have said that they will warrant this, if the laptop has not been dropped.

It seems that the helpdesk people follow what are known as "advisaries" with regard to warranty isues. As they dont have one for the dust behind the Infinty screen they dont warrant it, or so they say.

If you have a dust issue you need to log a fault because it seems that warranty response depends on fault volume.

So if you have dust behind the screen log a fault and ask this issue to escalated.

I will be writing to HP and making as much noise as I can. If i knew that HP didnt care about dust getting behind the screen I would not have spent $2600

    Cheers

    Rich

Wow! Okay, I sent my DV5T in 2 days ago because I too had dust in my screen as well as blemishes from the keys being in contact with the keyboard. So just now, I check the status and they want to charge me $428.85 for the service charge. I called right away and asked why I was being charge. And they said exactly what you said Rich. They said it doesn't fall into the warranty coverage. I started to complain and told them that it is a design flaw and that the people that ordered the Infinity Screen shouldn't pay for their engineer's mistakes.

Then the rep put me on hold and spoke with his supervisor, and basically all he said that he can do is "escalate" this issue with a technician and a manager. So I will be recieving a call within two days from them.

This is complete bull and I agree with you Rich, if I had known, I wouldn't even pay for that upgrade of a Inifinity screen. Also the fact that they say that it is "Scratch Resisant" is a joke. So yeah, let me know how it goes for you because I will be joining you in making the noise.

By the way, DO NOT EVER GET THE INIFINITY DISPLAY! ITS JUST BULL!!

I'm glad that my comparison is still of use. I prefer the Infinity display.

Are you all really OCD over a little speck of dust?

I feel it is not. It adds nothing apart from looks and a little glare!
