Been looking at what pictures I could find for the new dv2000/v3000 and it appears that HP designed the machine with a slight slope for the keyboard to make typing a bit easeir. Can anyone confirm this? (I wish my local Best Buy or CompUSA would stock it so I could check it out!)

The larger battery does stick out from the bottom.

Ever so slightly. I woldnt say it as being sloped but if you get a 12 cell battery as ZaZ suggested then it will give you a definate slope making it easier to type on.
