My brother has an opportunity to buy a used hp zv5000 for $400.

    It's specs...

    15.4 1280x800
    2.8 P4
    512 DDR
    60gig 4200rpm
    DVD reader/CD burner (combo)
    3xUSB

It seems to work fine. But it's kinda dirty, like everywhere, even when you open the DVD drive.

Besides the P4 vs. P-M factor, is this a pretty good computer?

    Thanks!

Dirty eh? I'd be afraid of it dying out on you a while after you purchase it.

This is a good laptop overall though a bit dated now. I would be worried about it if it is dirty, however. Is it really dirty or just dusty? If it is dusty then you might could clean it and it might be okay.

    Hey guys thanks!

Well, as for the dirt, let's put it this way... It looks like the guy used it as a plate. LOL! There, crap under the keys, down in the vents, in the cd bay, on the PCMIA slot protector cartridge. Like I said it seems to run fine. And I think I can cleen the outside pretty well. I don't know do you guys think it? Would be worth $400?

Personally, I would not shell out $400 for it if it is that dirty. For another couple hundred dollars you could get a brand new one so why waste your money on this. Good luck!

I agree 100%, I'd just pay a bit extra to shell out for a new one.

I'd avoid the P4 version of the zv5000 series, and any other P4-based notebook for that matter. Horrible battery life, high heat, weak performance. The AMD version of the zv5000 series is decent though (I have one). The GPU's weak and the notebook is heavy but it's very good for getting work done.

At all costs, avoid P4 in a notebook, it's a bad choice. Let it be pentium mobile or any AMD processor instead.

Ok, Thank you all for the advice.

Well, I cleaned it up and it looks pretty good, but I'll probably just tell the guy to sell it on ebay.

    Thanks again. :)

Yeah its an awesome computer. But being a desktop replacement aka bulky, I cant use it for university. Also its battery life with the P4 isnt all that great.
