Hi all, browsing through the ASUS threads looking for S96J reviews I saw a thread about a graininess issue these notebooks have. Some say it's the LCD screen itself, some say the BIOS, some the drivers and others say it's the ATI x1600 video card.
So I pose this question to all HP nc8430 owners, have any of you noticed any graniness with the screen at all? I thought I had narrowed down my choices to the S96J and the nc8430 but now I'm not so sure. Any info would be great, thanks.

I don't notice any graininess, kinda glad I got the matte screen, but the brightview is nice except for the glare.

you can use Nokia screen test to check it. Just see gradation of grey color. If you see it's not solid color then yes you have this problem

Hello, I got the NC8430 (ES509ET#ABU model) with the standard WSGA 1280x800 display. If I look incredibly close, I can see slight grainyness (ie: greys are actually a slight mix bag of colour) but it really isn't noticable.

    Hope that helps.

Not any close to the grainess from my asus a6ja. Although people are saying that it is a X1600 related problem I think it is more a panel problem. I suspect that the asus panel is not true 24bit colour.

Not really, although like BandanaDan, I went closer to the screen and noticed some slightly, however that means it'd be fine in normal use. But then why would my screen be grey all the time? :p
