    The title says it all.

I'm using the dv6 for gaming and school(more gaming). Battery life is IMPORTANT but so is gaming. Which one should I get?
    The i5 or the i7?

    For gaming? I doubt it.

Maybe games that use more of the processor would benefit but it wouldn't be as big a difference as if you were going to do some video rendering and the like.

I'm also going to recommend the i5 more since you mentioned battery life. The i5 comes with a built-in Intel HD chipset so you can switch back and forth to preserve battery life. The i7 has nothing in it so you're going to be stuck with the discrete 5650 on battery, which will probably last 2-3 hours max.

The i5 and i7 will be almost the same in gaming (most games), therefore go for the i5 without question when adding in the battery life as important.
