I was wondering if I should purchase an HP zv6000 for college when I found this stuff about it: http://www.planetamd64.com/lofiversion/index.php/t7382.html
and this from the zv6000 and R4000 forums
What's up? Should I still consider buying it?

For whatever reason I can't get your links to load, but I don't get any feeling from people here that there's a signficant reason to avoid those HP models.

I got a zv6000 for the same reason and the no dual channel isnt that big of a deal. Its tad bit heavy though, but I still plan on carrying it to all my classes

I have been using HPs for years and have had no major issues with them.
Its true that some of their systems dont support dual channel but its not a big deal.
The best you can get is about 5% to 10% increase in memory performance and you would rarely notice something like that unless you went looking for it with special software.
There are always people that will put down the companies that they dont buy from but it doesnt mean they know what they are talking about.
Also there is some left over hard feeling for compaq based on the days when you had to use compaq parts in compaqs. They were a proprietary hardware company and many people hated that especially the tinkerers. They dont work that way anymore but some havent forgiven them yet. -
oh I see, thanks for explaining! Since you guys think HPs aren't that bad, I'll consider buying one.

I'm sure that my situation is not common, but I just went through a Compaq R4000 and HP zv6000 and returned both for quality issues... I didn't expect that to happen, but it did. The good thing is HP took them back, no questions asked. The bad thing was the time it's taken to move on and start looking all over again for a new laptop.
Is there something really wrong with HPs?
