I found the following notebook at sams club. It is within my budget of $1200. Is this computer any good?

I'd say that's a good deal - I built one on HPshopping.com, and it was $1,269 where yours was $1,199 - good deal. Looks like a great little notebook. I've worked with several DV1000's before, and they are very good notebooks.
Have fun!

I would recommend HPShopping.com because you won't have to pay tax there. The Compaq v2000, which is the same notebook as the dv1000 except is uses older Dothan Pentium M, similarly equiped runs about $1100 right now. Last week they were going for about $1k. You may want to hang out for a bit and see what the lows are. They constantly fiddle with there prices. I would recommend the 5400 hard drive and 12 cell battery.

I recommend getting from them because of their 6 month return policy. I wouldn't want to keep sending in my notebook for repair in case it messed up or any other problems.
