Is this fixable or am I going to have to return it?

I just bought an HP dv9930us from Circuit City on August 22. Since then I have had 10 blue screen errors (made a thread about that recently), several hangups, and blank black screens on boot up. I had to restart my computer 8 times within the past hour because I could not get past the black screen on boot.

My computer then put up a screen that said "unable to start" and then proceeded to repair it. I had to do that twice.

I contacted HP and they said that I would have to backup my data and do a system restore. My question is will that really work and solve my problems or is my computer a lemon? Will they replace it if it continues not to work properly? I cannot afford another computer and it is mandatory to have a laptop for the classes that I am taking this semester. Will they charge me for a replacement?

I didn't know that I would have to return it to CC within 14 days instead of 30 and now I feel cheated out of my money.

Troubleshooting a problem like this would be difficult as the multitude of errors do not point to any root problem; although a hardware issue may be to blame for all these errors, the only thing worth trying is a fresh installation Windows using a retail disc (not the recovery disc that came with your computer), plus the latest drivers off the HP site. If that doesn't work, then you likely have malfunctioning hardware that should be fixed by Circuit City.

Let's start with something simple. Burn and boot a copy of MemTest86+ and let it run for at least an hour. If it reports zero errors then I'd consider doing a system restore but scanning the HD as jcovelli suggests is a good idea too, perhaps using the HD test function in BIOS setup? BSODs like that suggest memory errors to me.
