I mean, really. I just bumped my nx9420 into a wooden chair, and now I have 2 tiny nicks on the edge of my laptop, right under the CD drive.

I mean, really. What makes you think that magnesium wouldn't be easily scratched?

(and it's not pure magnesium anyway...)

You should be more careful with your laptop. That's how things get broke then people call HP and complain about it.

People don't understand what magnesium chasis means.
Outer layer of your laptop isn't magnesium, it's plastic (so is that of Thinkpads), but on the inside you have white-gray chasis made of magnesium alloy which gives your notebook rigidity and protects internal components from impacts.

Try removing the battery to see that.

i don't know, why don't you light it on fire and see.. if its actually magnesium, it'll burn really really really really brightly (wear sunglasses).

    just couldn't resist..

    ps don't actually do that.

And usually, its not fully magnesium, its more of a magnesium composite compound...
