i have an HPDV9000 something laptop, 17" screen, [email protected], GeForce 7600Go, and i can sell it, for the exact same price, as it would cost me to buy a new Dell Inspiron 1720 with a [email protected] with GeForce8600GT

is it worth the exchange? it wont cost me anything, and while the HP is 18 months old, the Dell is new etc. is the build quality of the HP better? is the performance difference not worth it? 'specially for games?

    thanks

Yes its worth it. The Dells market price is alot better than your outdated pavilion.

If the upgrade is free then why are you even asking this question  ? most people won't hesitate to even spend a couple of hundred $$ on an upgrade like this....

Yeah, if the upgrade is free you should definitely go for it. You'll especially see a big performance increase with the 8600GT.
