My dv2000t's fan is always on. To be fair, it is just a whisper and if I sit back a little further, I can't hear it.

But is the fan on your lappy always on? I am thinking maybe it is a little unusually to have it running all the time.

My fan is always on because I want it on high. Do you leave your laptop on for long periods of time, or does the fan just start on high? I would imagine it is not a big deal. You have to keep in mind that you have a small laptop, and there is a lot of heat to get out of the inside of it. Personally I would download a small little program called Intel Thermal Analysis Tool, or Intel TAT for short. It will tell you the temperature of your CPU. If you post your CPU temps, I can tell you if you have something to worry about, but I doubt you do.

My fan is always on, with varying speeds. The only time it completely shuts off is when the cpu gets to 30*. But it's on a very low speed, so I can barely hear it.

It's much better than my last setup, where the fan would go on high speed at 50* and then completely shut off at 40*, so for 30 seconds it would go on really loud, then for 30 seconds it would be completely silent.

I would much rather a constant low hum, than a very loud fan for a little, then completely off for a little.

whoa...i think mine is off right now for the first time in history. But seriously, mine staying fairly quiet with exceptions for gaming and cpu intensive apps, then its like a Mcdonald Douglas engine.

When first booting up, fan is off. After a while, it will kick in and keep running.

I am using rmclock to undervolt the core 2 duo T2700 cpu and the temp hovers from 38 to 45 celsius.

    Is it normal?

Again, my fan is a whisper but hope it can be quieter ...

Those temps are fine. I don't know what you can really do about your fan though. I was going to say you could get a notebook cooler, which should help slow down your laptop fan, but the notebook cooler will have fans anyway. Is this a new notebook, perhaps you will get used to the sounds after a while. It is a good thing that the fan kicks on, and what you describe is exactly what I would expect; fan starts off, then kicks on....

If I am concentrating on my work, I just forget the fan since it is almost inaudible. But when I try to listen to it, it is there ;-)
