I purchased a HP ZV6000 model and attempted to connect a usb mouse to the computer. The port works, but the machine does power on the mouse (optical) or even pop up the ADD HARDWARE box. The mouse works in other machines, so does the ZV6000 have a new type of USB port or do I need a newer mouse?

    Thanks

Do you mean does not power on the mouse? Perhaps your usb ports are powered or don't have enough power. There are some that don't or only one is powered. Did you install the software with the mouse?

    1. I have the mouse but no other softeware drivers
    2. I installed the mouse on a Dell laptop running XP and the Dell/XP sees the mouse and uses it.
    3. There is power to the USB port as I can plug other items into it and they work.

I now know that XP will not power on the device if it does not "see" it and as the ZV6000 does not sense the mouse, it never gets power.

Which mouse? Brand/model? There have been a few oddball USB devices that didn't implement the USB spec correctly and don't play nice with anything other than an Intel chipset but I've never heard of a mouse not working.
