I recently bought a dv6 laptop with 6770M graphics. When I check my dxdiag under Display, it says that the name of it is Mobile Intel HD Graphics. I am wondering why it shows this instead of Radeon 6770M? Does this accept my graphic performance?
-
right click the desktop and hit configure changeable graphics, and select the high performance gpu
-
if it's the 6100, he can't do that. it's no longer selectable.
-
if you're sure you're using the right gpu, then it might be because of the version of witcher 2 you got
i remember reading about certain versions of the witcher 2 exe that have certain settings that severely restrict the fps in game..i think the d2d version was one of those versions
using a different .exe like from the steam version for example increases fps -
oh, so its only the 6100 that has the issue? i'm glad i have a 6091

So if I wanted to install the ATI/AMD version of Half Life on Steam, how would I do that? Cuz it checks your graphics to see if it's Radeon or not..
-
I read though the forum and realized what my problem is. Since this laptop can no longer manual switch to the 6770M, does that mean I can't download the Radeon Half Life 2 from Steam? It checks your system to make sure it's ATI and since I can't manually switch to the 6770M, it doesn't detect it and says my hardware is not compatible with this offer.
Any there any way to manually switch it? -
no. you are screwed until/if HP gets off it's duff and FIXES the driver (I'm sure there's plenty of fault to throw at ATI).

I think Dave is wrong. What is the ATI version? I installed HL2 Deathmatch and CS Source in Steam just fine the other day. If it's not in Steam, but an external installer, you can do this: Start the installer and then cancel at the first screen. Right-click the desktop and go to Configure Switchable Graphics. The installer should be the first thing on Recent Applications, and you can change it to High Performance. Run the installer again.
-
The installer is in steam, it's from this offer:
ATi Steam Offer -
Well by default, Steam runs on the Intel graphics. I know because every time I start a Valve game, it gives me a system requirements warning.
You should still be able to get it working, but you will have to browse for your Steam.exe and set it to High Performance first. -
I just tried that and it didn't work
-
Well, there are actually many EXEs involved with Steam, and I am not 100% sure how Steam handles hardware detection. But you should go ahead and try setting all of them to High Performance before you give up! Here are the following exes to add:
In the root \Steam\ directory:
GameOverlayUI.exe
Steam.exe
steamerrorreporter.exe
WriteMiniDump.exe
In the \bin\ folder within the Steam directory:
SteamService.exe
x64launcher.exe
I hope it works! Remember to set them all up at the same time. Though, if Steam fetches the hardware info from some other source, like dxdiag, you probably are screwed until AMD releases better drivers. -
hey i tried but it doesnt work with me

Should be able to switch graphics using Catalyst Control Center as well. I have an Envy 17 and you can also check which card is enabled by right clicking on your desktop and choose "Screen Resolution"...then "Advanced Settings" and it will show which card is currently enabled. When I run 3D Mark 11 or DXDIAG, it shows my Intel graphics 3100 as well...I think that is because the Intel is part of your processor and is considered the "base" card for the system. I can never get 3D Mark 11 to recognize the Radeon 6850. When I run Hwinfo32, GPU0 is the Intel and GPU1 is the Radeon.
If I try to run 3D Mark 11 while the Intel Graphics card is enabled...the program refuses to run, saying that the video card is NOT compliant with DX11.
As far as graphics driver issues on the 6100...just bought one for my son. Hopefully getting it by the end of the month. Have you thought of hacking the Envy 17 drivers to work with your 6770. Find the .ini file and changing HD6850M to HD6770M and they will install...
Issue with the 6770M driver
