It's called a bait and switch show one quality of minitor at a store and send another one.

Don't let them get away with this.... Call HP Support and tell them you are returning the laptop because of the SEC lcd screen.

That's like test driving a car with expensive tires and the ride is nice and smooth. When you get the car delivered they put in cheaper rougher tires.... They cant do that...

I have the Compaq V3000 with the SEC screen. The brightness isn't terrific I guess but I haven't seen the other screens to compare it with.

More than anything, it is the viewing angle that I don't like. Does anyone know if the viewing angle any better on the QDS or CMO screens?

I've got a CMO on my dv2000t and the brightness is ok but the viewing angles aren't that great.

I went to Costco and found that they were selling the V3000 with the QDS screen. It was hard to tell if the display was any better in the store. But I bought one to compare with the V3000 that I ordered from HP (it came with an SEC screen).

I looked at the two side by side and the brightness and viewing angles were definitely better on the QDS. So, I am returning the one with the SEC screen, even though the processor speed on the one from Costco is lower.

In the end, it came down to the fact that my eyes strained to see the SEC screen due to the bad viewing angles. And the brightness wasn't too good either.

    Hi,

I just bought an HP dv2125nr from Best Buy, didn't unbox it yet luckily (restocking fee), is there any way to tell which screen I got using the serial number or something, so I don't have to open the box and risk paying 15% restocking fee if not bright enough? My another alternative seems to be a Toshiba Satellite A105- forgot the last 4 didgis. What about Toshiba? thanks much.

Return it and get your money back. Best Buy is the worst.

so i noticed that the dv2000's are coming with a number of different screens, but what about with the v3000's? i'm going back and forth between the two and frankly prefer the v3000 setup... although i've never really liked compaq and wanted a dv1000t really badly D: (now discontinued)

edit: i guess they use the same screens and have the same issues... looks like the best shot is to call them up and try to have a note added to the order for a "non SEC screen".

^^I tried that. I called up hp and asked to not get an SEC samsung screen. The customer rep looked at my order and said he couldn't find the screen. I then told him that I meant the laptop screen itself. He assured me that it was an "HP" screen. THis guy obviously had no idea what I was talking about. I then spoke to his manager who then told me he would note on my order to not use the SEC screen. Guess what? I got the SEC. It's not that bad, better than my dv1000, but the viewing angles are not good at all. I think the viewing angle problem is there across all manufacturers. I wonder if it has anything to do with brightview.

For those wanting a comparison between SEC screens and higher quality screen (in this case, AUO), here's a comparison between my dv1000 (SEC) and dv2000 (AUO) screens.

(Just in case someone may not know; the dv1000 is on the left, and the dv2000 is on the right)

    Clearly, there's a BIG difference.

Hope this helps anyone who may think it wont matter if they have/get an SEC screen.

    ;)

I returned the HP today. I checked the display model at the Best Buy where I bought it, and via the Control Panel -> Video info posted here, I se the lot mine came from was indeed an SEC screen. The HP model was sitting between two Sony VAIO's which just blew the HP away! So is Sony's XBrite the best? Toshiba (more affordable)? Thanks much.

So my laptop has the SEC screen and when I first got it, it bothered me to no end but now it still bothers me but I'm slowly getting used to it. The colors are also a bit off and I'm not sure why. Should I go ahead and return it for the QDS that way I'm getting my money's worth? I don't know if the QDS screen is worth the hassle of me having to wait another week or more to get another laptop.

Amara05, I would recommend that you should go ahead and return that laptop and reorder a new one. The screen is really worth it. My first order was an SEC, also. It was very dim. I can tell that it was a SEC before I even checked device manager. The second order I received yesterday has an LG screen and it is much brighter, although most people said that it's only one step up from the SEC, but the difference is very noticeable. I can imagine an QDS screen being much better. I've yet to see one in person, since those that my local Fry's carried are all SEC, 1 LG, and 1 CMO.
