Was thinking about updating the chipset drivers.

Anyone know where I can get updated, Intel chipset drivers for this laptop? Thanks :)

You don't need any updated chipset drivers. And yes that is quite hot, before anything else you could try undervolting your processor. Then we'll see what else might be causing the issue.

I have seen only one computer that has similar issues, and it happens to be one of mine. I have a dual-PIII rig that will behave like this about twice a day: HDD led lights up, only the mouse moves, menus open etc but you cannot open programs. Then mouse freezes too, sound starts looping if there is something playing etc. Everything looks like it's frozen. 30-45 seconds later the HDD led will go back off, music will resume playing, then everything is back to normal. In my case it's something to do with the SATA controller card installed, but i never bothered to find what's wrong, and it's been like that for over 2 years.

Well, the eventual solution was just to uninstall Vista SP1.

I also have the dv6700. Recently had random freezeups, espesually right after booting up. Ran a disktest from the boot screen set up routine, which stated the HD was failing and to replace it. Did so, and no problems since.
