I have 2gb of RAM currently. I have memtested them for many passes multiple times with no issues.

I had one issue where if I had hibernated a few times, it would then fail to hibernate. This had to do with a lack of contiguous memory or something and was kinda common with people with lots of memory. There was a hotfix for it that was avail and that has worked thusfar.

Now my current problem I have posted about before, and I want to say it may be linked to memory issue related to hibernation.

I cannot play WoW for very long without it locking up my entire computer. I have not had this issue with other applications so far. What I have noticed however is that it only happens if I run WoW after a hibernate. If i reboot the computer before I run the game it doesn't lock up at all.

Can someone explain to me exactly what hibernation does to the computer....and is it safe to assume it is my memory that is causing issues.

Will a memory scrubber help with this?

    Hi,

Hibernation actually copies all RAM contents onto disk into a hidden file in root c: called hiberfil.sys which can be fragmented. It is big as much you have RAM.

When loading back, you must have exactly the same hardware config, otherwise you get errors or loose data (for example there is no external disk). If you restart your comp, hibernate immediately, and then without removing any device try to boot. Start WOW immediately, and see if it locks.

Failing to hibernate has to do with the number of resources that Windows OS deals with. I noticed that opening dreamweaver on 13000 files site and Access with 30000 file locks causes hibernation fail and entering standby.
BTW if I understood right there is a patch for it? How to get it?

Otherwise I don't see any issues with anything after hibernation.

    Cheers,

This is what I referring to...

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909095

I haven't had that issue since the hotfix, but the WoW thing is still the case.

I am not removing devices or anything, but I imagine if I am hibernating a few times throughout the day, the memory is being stored on the HD and then when I boot it again it is putting that back into RAM. Could it be that in doing so a few times the information being put to RAM is so fragmented or that it is not being cleared properly? I will try your suggestion later.

Shouldn't be the problem, but maybe if you defragment your hiberfil.sys, it may help. There are also some RAM defragmenters. Maybe they help you get the contiguous memory?

Thanks for the info. This is the new article about this problem. Did you contact tech support and obtained the hotfix? Did you have to pay for it? If you didn't, may I ask you to send me the hotfix to check if it resolves my issue?

    The old one was this:

Patch can be downloaded, but cannot be installed on SP2 (I guess it is already installed then)

    Cheers,

I just wanted to add that I played a bit with one Mem optimizer and it did make possible hibernating BEFORE MS hotfix was applied. Read more about it here:

    http://www.thegamebooks.com/hibernating-issue-with-more-than-1gb-ram-t101.html

But I used to have some issues afterwards. So I finally have found and installed hotfix. No problems anymore. Download is available on the link above.

    Cheers,

If you can get away with it, try using Suspend instead of Hibernate. Suspend-to-RAM does use some battery power but not much. So long as you don't run out of battery it's faster and more reliable than Hibernate.
