Hi There. Hope someone could help with this. I just bought a new HP laptop from Best Buy and everything appears to be working good. Except for one issue I am having. When I try to view a video (whether it be on youtube, a dvd or a downloaded video file), and no matter what program I try to use (WMP, RealPlayer, Windows Media Centre etc), the video is choppy, slow and ends up losing sync with the audio. I've found it happens in full screen and all other modes, although it appears worse when in full screen mode. I used a 3 year old Toshiba before and I had no problems at all with video and that one had specs that were half of what this laptop has. Anyone know what things I could try to get to the bottom of this problem? I have already called HP and they weren't of too much help. Here are the laptop specs:

update your video drivers and you can try vlc
-
First I downloaded VLC and tried that, a little better but it still lost sync between the audio and video.
So then I went to the HP website and looks like I already have their latest drivers. So I went to the NVIDIA website and downloaded drivers released on Oct. 15/2008. But when I goto install them I get the message that the operating system in use is not Windows Vista 32-bit and the drivers are meant for 32-bit.???? So the setup program terminated there. But It IS 32-bit windows. Know anything about this? -
go here http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=20761
click on the driver link, click on the modded .inf, extract the drivers to a a known folder and copy the inf into that folder.
now try running the setup from within the extracted folder, if thats no go report ...
or you right click computer /manage / devise manager / display adapter / update driver then chose the have disk method and point it to the new inf you placed in that folder.
have fun. -
Hi ,
I have AMD turion 64x2 1.6GHz with GeForce 7200,
I had the same problem of lost of sync between the audio and video once.
I notice that when the power plan was set to POWER SAVER which limits the maximum processor state to 50%,
Chech you setting
Right clik on the battery icon in notification area>power options>Change plan setting>change advanced power setting>processor power management>maximum processor state> (Check the setting is it 50% or 100%)
& good luck with your new (bad compination HP+AMD+Nvidia) computer, in my opinion! -
Ya.. checking my power settings was actually one of the first things I checked. Anyhow I don't really like using modded drivers so I used a portion of the suggestion from "royk50".
I went back to the nvidia website to download the very newest drivers (the one that wouldn't let me install them using the install program). I then uninstalled and cleared any remaining display adapter drivers, reboot using generic drivers.
I ran the driver setup program I just downloaded as when you do that it extracts the files THEN starts the setup program. Once the error message came up I exit out of that, then loaded device manager and manually selected the newly extracted .INF driver file. (this new driver is from October 7, 2008 - my old one was september 2008). It worked, I now have the newest driver installed and a quick check of my videos they now do appear to be working and displaying properly.
My only concern now is that I have read to only install HP released drivers as they may be personalized for the HP lineup or something to that effect. Are there really any known differences to the HP driver releases and the manufacturer releases?? This wouldn't void any warranty would it??
Again, thanks a million for the help and fast responses. -
dont worry thats just fud.
this drivers are downloaded by thousands of notebook users and all manufacturers use the same tactics to frighten users so they wont fiddle with their systems. your warranty is good, forget about it and enjoy your machine.

You know, I could swear that the NVIDIA driver that HP Update recently installed on my dv9000z made video playback much more choppy. It's one of the reasons I'm replacing it with a dv4z with ATI video. I have to wonder whether HP is downclocking the GPU or some such thing in order to slow down the rate at which these NVIDIA GPUs suffer thermal failure? Your G60 might have one of the newer chips that fixed that issue but the driver might not be smart enough to know that. Just speculating.
