It came with a 64mb card Mobility Ratheon 9200.......
Is it the card that is slow or is it the 1.7 Centrino as I have 1 Gig of Ram but this computer is slow!!!
Any thoughts?
Thank you

Upgrading the video card will most probably be impossible since they are generally soldered on to the motherboard.
The hard drive is probably making it slow...Whats the speed of the hdd...4200rpm,5400rpm??
Also is the computer free of spyware, viruses[?]
Slow is subjective...so more info would be helpful...

Hmmm, with that processor and that much ram, the computer should be performing very smoothly. It's probably all the junk software and spyware that got installed on your computer. Download Ad-Aware from www.download.com and scan your PC.

I use ad-aware and Registry software.....Norton Internet Security is always running....I have nothingin the startup that I do not need....
Yet, I feel this Laptop from HP with 1.7 Centrino is the slowest computer since an 8088.
Temp files delete when I.E. is closed. Only Outlook Express, I.E. and Excel are open at one time....
This hard drive is clean....but the computer is slow...
Any other thoughts?

P.S.
As far as slow being relative...it seems that this computer "thinks" about everything before it does it.....
And Yes, i am used to a desk top that hums so I have to take that out of the equation.

Here's something to try.
You can right-click on the task bar and select Task Manager or use Ctrl-Alt-Del to bring it up. Select the Processes tab and take a look at what's running. You can sort the columns by clicking on the name of the column. You can check the CPU and memory columns to see what's using them the most. Normally, the System Idle process is using the CPU the most even with a whole bunch of apps open. Only when the apps have to do some work should they start using the CPU. You can leave task manager up while you do the things that seems to cause the slowness and see which processes are using CPU and memory. If a process other than System Idle Process is using the CPU, then you can trace it to an app and find out why. I had McAfee AV causing me problems a week ago where it was constantly trying to run. I thought maybe a virus had snuck in, but scanning didn't detect anything. I ended up uninstalling and reinstalling it and that solved the problem.
