soo after months of drooling over the dv6500 (and of course waiting for dedicated graphic cards to be released) i choose the dv9500.....reason... the screen. i honestly just didn't like the screen resolution. but i am happy with my purchase.....

Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit)
    – Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo processor T7100 (1.80 GHz, 2 MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
    – 17.0" WSXGA+ High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1680 x 1050)
    – 1GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    – 383MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS
    – FREE Upgrade to HP Imprint Finish + Webcam + Microphone
    – Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 4965AGN Network Connection and Bluetooth(TM)
    – 160GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
    – FREE Upgrade to LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support
    – High Capacity 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
    – Microsoft(R) Works 8.0

PLUS- The HP psc5180 printer & the 1-year HP Accidental Damage Protection with Express Repair Extended Service Plan for HP Pavilion and Presario Notebook PCs

Now what does everyone think of the warrenty.. shall i return it or upgrade it to the 3 year........???????????????

My ending price was about $1375 ( have the app discount also)

P.s. if u are going to customize the dv9500 any time soon. look when u go to the customize page for the free offers. there was a bullet that said free upgrade to bluetooth...but when i clicked on the the bluetooth upgrade added $15 (acutally it was adding $16, though it said $15, witch i thought was werid)
anyways i ended up calling hp and they ended up giving me the free upgrade with a added discount because i had problems..(lol i wish i could get discount all the time for having problems my lifes filled with that).. soo if your in the market for a dv9500 a phone call might do u some good rather than the internet (as long as your okay with phone reps english) lol

i will also be adding 4gb of memory to this sucker...... (does anyone know if premuim will ever even read 4gb) havent decided if ill upgrade to Ultimate but i get a discount through my college!!!

also i think i might run xp Media Center Edition untill sP1 comes out for vista anythoughts?????

The amount of memory the operating system will see depends on the bit version you will be getting. 64 bit Windows, either Premium or Ultimate, it doesn't matter, will take advantage of 4 GB of memory. Putting 4 gig on a 32 bit version will not utilize all that memory and will waste some of your money until you upgrade.

HP does not provide windows disks with their systems, so you are stuck with what you ordered. (full versions generally have both 32 and 64 bit versions for which you may use either.

I originally ordered a system with 64 bit Ultimate, and traded it for a 32 bit Premium. as the compatibility issues with legacy windows software and drivers for some of my older peripherals were going to be a problem issue.

A 32-bit Windows will detect only about 3.5 GB of RAM.

    – 17.0" WSXGA+ High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1680 x 1050)

How's the 1680 x 1050 display? I ordered the 9500 as well but didn't upgrade the standard 1440 x 900 (i believe thats what it is, right?). After reading posts from other 9500 owners, I'm starting to regret not upgrading!

You should always go for the higher resolution. You can adjust the screen to make fonts larger, but you can't really make them smaller on a low resolution screen. HPs "high" resolution is not really that high of resolution anyway. If it were 1920x1200 (I wish!), then it might be an issue.

If we ever felt the need to reformat our hard drives and reinstall Vista... how would we do it if we do not have any windows disks? I noticed that my HP box came with a "vista upgrade" cd.. is that it?\

EDIT: oops silly me theres a thread for installing a clean version of windows vista.. using the anytime upgrade cd... MY BAD

As far as I know, the license does not stipulate that you must use a 32 or 64 bit OS. The key you have should work on both, as long as you use the same "level" (premium, ultimate, etc...).
