I could have actually gotten this computer for around 950, but I chose the 7200 rpm HDD, so that added 50ish to the order. I don't exactly order computers very often, so I am not sure if most folks know this....but I was surprised to learn that the 1299.99 and up coupon deal could include tax (in other words, as long as the machine comes to 1299.99 AFTER tax, you can get the discount). I specifically went back and re-did some of my choices, because I found out I could save around another 80 backs on stuff I had been adding to get the system to 1299.99 pre-tax. -
The new HP notebooks are selling fast!
-
Indeed. I had spent a good few days (as in, entire days....off work and done with school now) looking around for computers, and I really was leaning towards a 600 or 700 dollar computer. I went into actual stores, shopped online, consulted with tech people I know...the whole deal. However, the more I thought about it all the more I have come to think that if I am going to spend 600 or 700 dollars on a small notebook with basic features, I might as well drop another 300 on a hoss notebook (by my standards at least) and offset that by picking up some overtime at work.
Kudos to this site though for reviews, forum posts, and the info on the coupon....400 bucks off...still can't believe it. -
I just ordered on as well

I think the coupon has been all used up. I just tried to order one and didn't get the $400 of at checkout. Lame.
-
The coupon is not used up. I just tried it out and its still working. Make sure you have a regular account with no special discounts (student, faculty, etc etc) and the base price of the laptop is over 1,299.
-
ok sweet i'll try again, i was logged into app.
-
Can't believe it but I just ordered one too! First laptop ever. Had same desktop since 2002. So I have been waiting and could not decide on power of a desktop vs. amazingness of a laptop. I decided laptop then I could not decide between 17" and 15.4". Finallly I decided 15.4 and this deal was very good. Not the 500 off 1399 but still close enough. This thing is fully loaded and a great price!!!! Cant wait!!

I went with 32-bit windows because I just see too many compatibility problems with 64 bit right now even though it is getting better. Also, decided with higher resolution screen which I was not originally going to do. Any opinions on the screen? -
This better be here tomorrow morning cause I'm def ordering this tomorrow
-
FAZZ! That's a killer deal. You even got the hi-cap 6 cell and TV Tuner.
-
Thanks man - I ve been lookin to get a tv tuner in any computer I got so I couldnt pass it up! And I decided with the high capacity battery to make sure it doesnt run out like some people claim. Infamous - do you have any insight into the whole 64-bit issue? Have you run into any problems with program compatibility - even small ones? And last - did you order Ultimate with your laptop or upgraded after? Thanks.
-
I got Ultimate 64 bit with the laptop preinstalled by HP.
I've only had one compatibility issue and that was with a certain VPN program which isn't well known. I know there are ways around it but that was it. I have never had a device incompatibility issue and those are supposed to be common with 64 bit.
AND relax. Don't be afraid by the term 64 bit. It still has a built in emulator to run 32 bit programs. Life is all about taking risks.
As for the screen, you made a pretty good choice. Usually 1680x1050 is a 17" screen resolution, at least for notebooks. Everything will be very crisp and clear. Having that many pixels on a 15" screen will be crazy. You're gonna enjoy playing games and watching movies on it.
You should go run out and buy COD4 or Vegas 2. Both run very decent with the 9600m GT. -
Ordered August 11th.
Shipped today, August 15th. -
That's pretty darn quick Bill!
-
Time to deal with the heat issues! -
sonoritygenius Goddess of Laptops
Wow! Thats super fast build/shipping time, congrats!
I cant wait for the pics, billiton
I personally think the heating issues are over-exaggerated, I mean all laptops give off heat - some just do it better than others -
I also called HP to price match the 5% stackable coupon. So the lappy is going to end up costing me $858 + tax. Saved about $50 more. -
-
Got my laptop, it runs really warm and I'm not even doing anything on it at the moment.
Heat treatment here I come! -
-
This thing is running very very hot right now. I'm tempted to return it, but the price I paid of $850 is such a bargain.
Any ideas on keeping it cool? Different drivers? -
If you use it on your lap then get a notebook cooler. The heat won't cause any lack of performance, at least with the temperatures mentioned.
-
i just bought mine from costco too..
its going to take sometime since i live in the middle east, around the world shipping!!
hope it arrives around the first of September, cant wait!!

Hp are making tons of cash right now.. -
sonoritygenius Goddess of Laptops
yes, but the price-for-specs deal we all are getting from HP is a steal
-
Like I stated in the dv5t thread, my dv5t with 9600m GT compared to my girlfriends dv5t with integrated gfx is like night and day. Her notebook stays so cool, mine gets real warm. -
timesquaredesi MagicPeople VooDooPeople
the deal on desktops is not as huge as the drop in laptop prices, so laptops, imo, are the way to go. -
