No more operating disc. Have to make your own recovery disc. Which compose of 2 dvd's or 13 cd's Can only make recovery disc. once so you better make back up copies. I am now waiting for it to make recovery disc's, taking along time, still on the first of two disc. It has two usb ports on the left side up and down and are a weak point. I would rather have them side to side like on most other notebooks. AC adapter is on the right side in the back and gets in the way when you open the dvd tray. Will report more as time goes on.

    Congrats on your new laptop!
I have been waiting forever for some news and reviews about this system. My main concern is the screen, how is the quality, brightness and viewing angles?

I noticed that you can now order Install Media on the HP home site for $10. I don't recall that being an option when I placed my dv5000t order earlier this month. I called HP a couple days ago to see if I could add the media to my order since it hadn't shipped yet. They said no, order modifications were not allowed. They recommended calling the parts dept to order install media.

Do you plan on wiping your laptop and performing a clean install? I tried booting off the recovery dvds I created, it doesn't look like you can do a regular WinXP install with them.

Still installing software the battery has lasted 4hours and 16 minutes with 32% remaining. I had a 5000z amd and the 12 cell battery lasted only three hours and 30 minutes . The screen is real good and the usb ports are shaky. I do not believe the two together will hold up.Costco has a 150.00 instant rebate on the unit with a $50.00 rebate from HP anybody interested. The Hard drive has a partition drive d for recovery. I do believe the recovery discs will work from a boot up. I do not believe it is as quick as the 5000z but I am able to run more then one program at a time. I have installed two programs at the same time with out any trouble.

I don't think I was very clear in my post. I agree that you can boot up using the recovery discs, my concern is that it doesn't look like you can do a vanilla XP install using the recovery discs. The recovery discs appear to lay down the preconfigured XP image, with all the extra bloat provided by HP.

The recovery disc. will put everything back like the original with a ton of garbage and quite a few games more then the 5000z. The battery life was 5 hours and 45 min. A lot better then the 5000z. The 12 volt battery sticks out the bottom and is not tight and when you pick up the laptop it moves a bit. I am not going crazy with pictures. When I had the 5000z (returned) it had two disc. Windows xp only and software disc. the 5000t you have to make recovery discs.
It also has on drive d a recovery program and get this it takes 8 gb of your hard drive (stinks.) Glad I got 100 gb hard drive. I wanted the battery life because I use the notebook in my car for GPS. I hate using the invertor to many wires.
In a perfect world you probably should wait for the new windows operating system and Amd duel core processor. I just think that the voltage on amd uses more and even when they come out with their duel core one, the battery life will be two hours less with the 12 cell battery. I had both the 5000t and 5000z same notebook body and same 12 volt battery. the only thing different is the inside. The battery life on the 5000z was two hours and 15 minutes less.

Oh great! An Intel version of Mr. 64bit. AMD does NOT suck. I'm sick of people posting anti-Intel comments. I'm sick of anti-AMD comments. Heck, I'm sick of me hating Intel! Why can't we just realize that the two different brands cater to different people?

Well, that's really low. It should be around 5 hours. But what "should be" shouldn't take the place of what "is".

doing this post on my cel phone. Let me say two other things before I call it a night. The sound to play a DVD is bad. My emachines has better sound for a DVD. The $50.00 rebate cannot be done on line because HP did not program the 5000t yet.

I have the dv5000z with the 12-cell battery and when I got it, the most I could get was around 2.5 hrs like you've said.

I contacted HP and asked them, they confirmed it and the guy said 3 at most (obviously I told them I had read it should be around 5 hrs and he said it depends on the way you use it... gee thx for helping me).

Then I decided to try something by myself, I calibrated the battery like they suggest. Reduced the brightness of my screen and it works.

I get a little bit less than 5 hours but I can't tell exactly because I haven't gone to 0% again, but 4 hours with ~15% remaining is superb and by the way I always keep the wireless and the bluetooth working :)

I'm very happy with my Turion, thanks AMD.

PS. And no, I haven't undervolted the processor... I suppose there's even more if I squeeze it.

PS2. I did get the OS disks and have no regrets at all for not chosing the Core Duo machine.
