Just saw it on Comedy Central. It is the first bit of advertising I have seen from the Envy line. I am glad that HP is making an effort to get their notebook known. They focused solely on the fact that they are the only company that has BEATS audio in their laptops. Just thought I would share.

perhaps this one?
YouTube - Dr. Dre Remasters the HP Envy -
Yes! That is the exact one!
-
IMO, now's not the best time to be advertising the Envy because of some of the problems.
-
Mainly shipping problems..... ARGGG
-
Why would they advertise beats by dre? Anyone who is anybody knows beats by dre is trash. Im sure the laptop system is better thant those crappy cans but still....
-
Marketing and reality are not the same things. As to what anyone who is anybody knows...
Monster Beats by Dr. Dre Studio - headphones - Ear-cup, Binaural - Black
Look at those reviews. Seems like the anyone who is anybody crowd is pretty small.
Does not matter that you can have better sounding cans for less money, many if not most people come from far worse than those. And that is all they know.
As for using it to advertise the envy, it is enough that you are supposed to get better sound (out of the headphone jack) than most laptops. And if it takes a link to what many perceive as offering better sound (beats audio headphones), then so be it.
Unfortunately I don't think the majority of people will ever scour the forums and test enough equipment to become real experts. -
Why would they pick beats out of all things to advertise? There are much better selling points, like the radiance display, the slice, the great specs... it has a lot of good things going for it since knowledgeable people on nbr are buying it. but beats is not one of those things.
-
because most normal people, and by normal i mean non-enthusiasts, have no idea about the screen or what the hell a slice does. when it comes to buying a laptop for normal people, most of it just comes down to looks and marketing gimmicks, which is exactly what beats is.
-
They should just show the Envy a little more and that will get some people's attention.

The ad was well crafted and emphasizing the audio could certainly be a way to raise the profile of the Envy line among regular consumers ready to spend $1-2k on a laptop who may not currently care about the audio quality, or even realize that they "should" care. If HP positions this concept in the right way, which would be difficult and expensive to pull off in my view, some consumers could start to see it as an important factor. Obviously, they wouldn't turn a profit on the line focusing primarily on the audiophiles and DJs market segment and I don't think that was their intention, but they need some way to raise the profile of the brand, perhaps another way would be better. -
they have a beats edition and every envy has the beats logo, why wouldnt they base their advertising on what they are obviously pushing?
besides, non-enthusiasts think beats are good, my brother was hyped when i told him my envy had beats audio. average people eat this up -
I would think that the last thing you would care about in the laptop is the sound output but I guess it's just a bonus.
-
Well... Maybe I'm the only one but sound quality is a big thing to me. I DJ a lot and I really like to push everything out of my computer. The Beats audio was a selling point for me because I was strongly considering the dv6 (or which ever one was the one with the 5650) and the Acer Aspire and the Beats audio made me want the Envy all the more.
Again.. maybe the only one... -
dr dre looks even more stupid as a daft punk wannabe than as a wannabe gangster -- the fact that these don't ship with low latency ASIO drivers shows that this whole thing is a marketing gimmick. i searched google for hours the other day and couldn't even find anyone mentioning the latency when used with a generic driver like asio4all! that isn't a good sign, it means nobody is really using this laptop for making music.
