So here's what I'm looking to get (I get a student discount):

    dv7t
    Onyx
Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
    Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor P8600 (2.4GHz)
    17.0" diagonal WSXGA+ High-Definition HP BrightView Infinity Display (1680x1050)
    FREE Upgrade to 4GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm) from 2GB DDR2 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
    250GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
Personalization [For BrightView Infinity Display] Webcam Only
    Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card with Bluetooth
$50 OFF! Blu-Ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW Double Layer
    No TV Tuner w/remote control
Primary battery 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
    After tax and everything: $1,312.99

Oh, reasoning for Infinity, I've seen both in stores, and I really like the sleekness of the Infinity. I didn't think it was too much of a picture compromise. Plus all computer screens around here attract dust like nothing else.

Also, I've been hearing a lot of mixed reviews about the dv7 and heating. Can it handle heat, or no? I can extend my warranty for another year anytime within the first year, right? Just in case it does have the heating problem, I'd like it to be covered, but I don't really have money right now.

I'm in college, but I really won't mind an extra pound in my backpack from a 17". I do a lot of graphics/web design, a fair bit of programming, and beyond that, internet and multimedia. I'm planning on doing some gaming. Probably along the lines of Unreal Tournament, Sims 1&2, Fable, etc. Nothing too intensive like Crysis.

Beyond that, just looking for something powerful that will (hopefully) last me as long as my six year old PowerBook has.
