well what you don't need is the bloat ware that comes with it. If you remove them individually like from the from the control panel, many stuff will still be left behind on the hard drive and registry. Ill suggest you try doing a Clean Install if you can:

Most people say it speeds the computer up also ;)

appreciate the info. seems quite daunting. how much difference in speed are we talking? i don't really play games. i will probably use it to watch dvd's, but mostlyl, i got it so i can get out of my house and write. but, i do want it to run optimally and it came with a lot of "bloat ware".

Yeah it is daunting with all those steps huh, i actually have not tried it myself, but this post might might help you some

But in the mean tiime you might have to worry about this for now if watchin movies and writing is what you'll be doing most of the time. because I'm sure a 6500t stock laptop can do a lot better than what I use for writing and watching Movies ;) (which isn't too bad)

Most Likely you'll be fine adding those, you dont have to do a clean install. its usually Vista that might be a problem at times but theres New updates now that improves the compatibility and reliability of it, should download them if you havent

Use your computer for a while to navigate your way around it and see what HP software you use. After a couple of weeks, head over to add/remove programs and take off the stuff you don't use. That's the logical solution!
