Notebook arrived yesterday official model Pavilion 13t -s100 and right away I had the "90b Fan error" SO I read about it and started the system, updating the bios, the bios was current but I was unsure if that would fix it, well Have not had the error since.
so far its quiet ( yes the fan is running)
I had to take the whole thing apart, including mother board because HP in it's wisdom put the memory on the bottom of the mother board in the chassis. This was a 95% tear down and took me 2 hours and a lot of concentration to put it back right. I had a spare 4gb of memory that I used to upgrade the memory to a total of 8GB of ram, more than I will need but this way its at 8 for hopefully a long life of use ( 3 or so years I hope)
I upgraded the HD from standard to a 500gb Hybrid I had ( 8gb of ssd with the HD) This is supposed to make boot times and common programs I use everyday faster, I felt it did.
the i3 6100u is fast so far.
To help protect the finish from scratches I always cover my laptops with 3m clear Book cover adhesive, even after years this peels off leaving almost nothing behind, a damp soapy cloth cleans it off easy. I also bought a silcon keyboard protector since I once fried a laptop with a small coffee spill, it cost me about 7 bucks, and almost fits perfect, good enough and easy to take off The service manual to do what I did is 99% complete on the tasks. its easy to download off of HP -
ok I had the 90b fan error and fixed it with a bios update (april 2016) using core temp program and its under 45 c battery life is settling to 5.5 hours average will give full review next week

Hi DRPF,
Congratulations on your purchase! Just got mine as well with the same specs excpe I have a 1TB HDD.
Two questions:
1. What did you upgrade your SSD with?
2. Did you notice an M.2 SSD slot during your teardown.
I'll be opening up mine as well to upgrade my RAM and would love to install a quicker SSD but keep the 1TB HDD for large files.
Let me know and thank you in advance. -
Hi, just had time to come back and saw this ,post, sorry it took so long, Well its not an exspensive laptop so I put in a Sandisk z400s 256gb, it was a lower cost solution at under $65 and made a big speed difference and now it weighs about 3.6 lbs

Original price on EBAY Manufacture Refurb $399, ram upgrade ( free I had some but can be done for around $15) SSD z400s 256gb $63 ebay new. so can be done for under $500 when priced on HP similar with smaller 128 ssd ( probably a z400s) was over $700 then add tax.
