I got my ENVY15 today and so far its runnign great, i did a clean install and all is well. Except....

There is something inside me saying "Call HP now and return it, just do it!" and I don't know where that is coming from. I sold my desktop and MacBook so after that this thing only cost me like $200 after a coupon, but something doesn't feel RIGHT.

    Anyone know what I mean?

The only thing I hate about the Envy is the stupid acrylic bezel (which I JUST spend the LAST hour trying to buff with iDrops and got semi-decent results) and the touchpad. Otherwise, I think it is good.

Does anyone know a good plastic scuff polisher agent? Got to get rid of the scratch remover scuffs...

Maybe you can't justify the expense even if it is only 200 because you don't needed something better.

Over all having the desktop and the macbook no, but my goal was to wrap it all into one machine (the envy) to save me time with file versions, files spread over 2 machines and such.

I'll give it a week and see if it goes away, if not I'll return it.

Can I ask what's wrong with the Envy 15 as a laptop? It's one of the options I'm looking at right now, and battery life is the only strike against it for me.

If that's all, then it looks like it's at least worth a try, given the 30-day return policy.

I have no issues with my machine...and yet, I have the same issue as the OP. I think the 30-day return policy has me looking to ensure that my money absolutely cannot be spent better on something else.

I spent a lot for this machine...I want to make sure my money is being spent correctly. So far, there is nothing to the contrary. But, I still keep looking.

Think I'm, going to call HP this weekend and keep looking. I just hate that I finally got it after waiting for so long and now something inside says "no", and I can't figure out why.

Man,that sucks. I'm really liking the Envy so far. Maybe it's the keyboard. Something about it is a little bit off. Took me forever to get accustomed to it.

Don't tell me that you're not wholly satisfied with your premium laptop...

    Wow.

Probably because the build quality isn't as good as your old macbook pro. Envy's plastic lid looks exactly same as pavilion.

The word premium means nothing to me, it's just a laptop. It only cost me $200 and I'm still not satisfied with it, so it obviously has nothing to do with the price.

What exactly about it is "premium" same CPU as everyone else, same LCD as other higher end "non-premium" laptops, no optical drives(that even APPLE has, doesn't matter to me though), same memory limits, vid card is a bit higher end, but not by large jumps for the price. It would have been about 1500 with out a coupon, but now that i have it.... I guess I'm just not seeing anything "special" about it other then a nice casing, that doesn't open very far.

That's the feeling I have with my dv6000t that came before the dm3t. (I have the same feelings about the dm3t because I know I could have gotten the i5 CPU), but with my dv6000t I got the Core Solo CPU when I could have gotten the Core Duo CPU, but I ended up sticking with it and liking it, and when I got rid of it, I didn't really want to let it go.

I guess with HPs are that at first when you get it, you'll feel like you could have gotten something else, but if nothing goes wrong with your HP over time, you'll feel that it isn't that bad after all.

Part of me wants it, another part of me wants to get a super slim or light 10-14in notebook.

It's like POWER!!!!! vs battery life/portability If they 14in drops in the next week, maybe I'll get that, if the battery is better, and they give a 1600x900 option.

maybe it was all too easy..... if your like me, you like to get the very best you can swing within reason.
Sometimes you can buy and wonder..... "I wonder if I should waited for XXXX," or maybe wonder if you should have gotten more since it would have been easy to afford it and you'll put alot of time and trouble configuring it and have it for a long time?

Maybe its no fun if does't feel like to took a serous step up to make your efforts worthwhile...... just guessing.

you should look into dell precision m6500 with RGBLED anti glare screen, its beast spec wise but also costs little more than envy.
but it will feel like total package desktop + laptop. although battery life will be shorter than 3 hours probabbly around 2 hours or less

You have a good laptop that was cheap, you consolidated all your stuff in it
which if you do backups makes sense, i don't want for this to sound too strong but maybe the problem is that you were expecting too much emotionally from a laptop buy.

I can understand buying a new car that looks like my old one, but has a better faster engine, electronics and hidden telemetry... but the driving experience is still the same..... maybe thats the same feeling your having with the laptop.

This is why I decided on the DV8T because of the 18.5" screen, and I got the 256gb SSD for blazing speed "another big improvement" and a 500gb secondary backup drive and 8gb ram, Blueray burner,, Quad core......

This is all a whole new and different experience from my 15.6" ZV6000 with 1 gig ram I current have "that works perfect btw".

I think its important to feel like the hassle of all the tuning and tweaking will be worth it for a whole new experience.... if you don't have that..... its a let-down even if the price was right.

I agree with you. It could possibly be that altecx were expecting a bit too much. What I mean is when you have something (desktop + laptop) working fine, it is difficult to improve on it too much. Maybe you were expecting something kinda sensational or something, but it is hard to improve too much on whats working fine (your earlier setup) Am I making sense?

Myself I like it a lot.I love the keyboard, screen, the wonderfully light weight.

I am surprised a bit about the heat. I was playing pro evolution soccer 2009 and 2010 and they aren't the most graphics intensive laptops and it got only a bit less hot than my old Dell Inspiron. Maybe I was expecting too much having read about its wonderful cooling.

And I agree about the two-finger scrolling. While it works fine when I am sitting in front of it. But when I am lying down with it on my stomach, the positioning of the fingers is same but coming from a different angle and it doesn't work. For me 2 finger scrolling works 80% of the time.
