    I opened the box,
    put in the battery,
    plugged in the power,
Got charge light and power light
    Opened the lid
    and turned it on.
    Nothing on the screen,
Plugged in external monitor and function switched to that and nothing there either, although it does register a signal.
There is no monitor switch on the laptop(its internal apperently)
    any ideas?

Do you hear any activity coming from the HDD? I didn't have my battery in during first boot...I don't know why that would make a difference, but you never know :\

The light is on for charging, the light for the hd was on for a bit, but not now, there is no hd sound.

Take it back or send it back for an exchange unit.

Ya, the lcd is dead it seems, external monitor worked once the battery was removed.

Also for External monitor you hit some keys on your keyboard. I am using a DELL and the HP is in for repair so I don't know what they key is.

The LCD is dead, or not plugged in or the hidden monitor switch is broken..
Interesting though, it came with 32bit and 64bit vista, my choice witch to install.
Great looking laptop, shame about the screen. Dont they even turn them on at the factory to make shure the lcds work?

I'm pretty sure that they test all outbound notebooks, however something could have happened during its shipment to your house/to the retailer you got it from (depending on where you bought it), so that could be a contributing factor to the LCD dying.

CDW replaced the laptop and had the new one to me in one day.
Its up and running with Vista Business 32 and I am preparing for my return to XP campaign.
New screen looks great, glad I didnt get a higher res one.
