Well, just picked up my new dv6700t, 210ghz, 250g hd, BT, Fingerprint, 3G memory...

So far it's wonderful. NO dead pixels, QUIET as a mouse (is a mouse quite?) does not get to hot, memory test A+, Been removing junk and it's fairly speedy. So far... batting 1000%

    Ken :) :) :)

glad to hear that. you should consider a clean install, it will make your computer much much faster.

I've thought about doing a clean install. And I certainly have the cohonies to do something like that, being a network admin for 15 years, but at this point the laptop is certainly fast enough, and I want to see what the f$%k all these "utilities" and programs do before I wipe it all out. I have removed alot of crap I know I don't want.

And experience has well taught me that NOTHING ever goes quite the way we plan. The laptop came with SP1 and I have hanging around a anytime upgrade NON sp1 disk, which may or may not work.. My task bar is down to 4 TSR icons, boot up is fairly spiffy already. I'm going to create a "out of the box" recovery disk, and create another when I've got it the way I like it. One of the great threads here shows how to create a second recovery disk set. So if that works I'll be set with a recovery of the laptop all set up. (As I understand how this recovery disk works) So a question might be, does the recovery disk process just make a copy of the recovery partition, or does it make a recovery of the actual set up on the computer?

So far the Dv6700t seems well built, is very quiet, which some seem to be having issues with, stays relatively cool, again, some have issues. and the fingerprint reader is way cool!!

Got my dv6700t yesterday ( with $500 discount - can't beat it)- intel t9300, nvida 8400gs,etc. I have been very interested in the posts re heat, noise(fan), but so far all is great - minimal noise, acceptable heat. I will run this laptop as much as possible for the 21 day return policy and let you know if any problems occur.. So far I love this machine. It is fast and quiet.

Congrats! A nice system. To give another opinion, I just got a 9700t and I concluded there was no need to do a clean install. I just removed the crapware.

The system is very snappy and performing well. As you wisely state, nothing ever goes as planned, so why take even a minor risk and all the time involved when you could instead be enjoying your new system? A clean install can always be done later. But, I see no reason at all for one if you just take an hour or so and clean up.

    Enjoy your 6700t!

Just discovered an interesting find, HP Update wants to replace my F.52 bios with F.51.... Canceled that for sure... I wonder if the the new F.52 bios solves the fan noise and heat issues, since I have NEITHER...

Anyway, just goes to show you gotta watch EVERYTHING that these update routines want to do... every thing I install has a MASSIVE update to it. Nero, Windows, Adobe, Office, and half the drivers on this new laptop...

    Ken

BTW, Windows Update wants to update the 4965AGN wireless driver. Seems to be working fine as it is, anyone have any feedback on it.

dont update anything unless you are actually having issues with it or its security fix/major performance update

Windows update tends to retrieve the wrong driver causing issues.

Well, I would say it "has been known to" rather than "tends to". Sure, I've seen it happen, but I've run a lot more machines with auto-update on that never had a problem in that regard, even laptops.

    YMMV.

It retrieved the wrong drivers for me twice already, HP update is more accurate but the best way of updating drivers is going into your Driver Dowloads page in the HP website
