Hi just received my new dv2700t. It looks perfect in every way.. no problems at all except one issue and perhaps you all can give me some insight. I purchased it with a 12-cell battery. It locks into place properly and works fine. However, I noticed when i move the laptop, or put it on my lap that the battery moves slightly up and down. It does not appear that it is loose enough to ever get out of the lock position but it does rattle whenever moving it.

My question is, is this common or not normal? It was annoyng enough for me that what I did is put a small piece of paper between the battery and the laptop so that it would not rattle but I do not know if this is a viable solution. Anyways, all input is appreciated (fyi, i got this laptop today).

    Thanks

I have found on a few laptops that the extended battery wobbles around quite a bit, I'm not sure what it's supposed to be like on your model though.

I noticed that on my DV6000 model... although it's a 6cell. I think it's normal. The battery is a little loose... it's not "lock tight". but it works. Doesn't bother me personally. I would advise you not to contact HP about something like that, and I believe you'll get used to it over time (it bothered me for a couple days, but now I don't even notice).

oh ok. Another reason why I brought it up as well was because i read the review on this site about the 2700t and it had mentioned that the battery fit snug so i was not sure if this was only my system.

I have a dv2700t, and although it's not a 12 cell, it fits perfectly. Maybe you can call them up and see whats wrong with it.

I just took my battery out and put it back, and it's securely in place. So, I'm guessing a call or chat would be perfect.

I ended up deciding to give them a call, since this is a brand new laptop and calling them couldnt hurt. I told them the issue and they are sending me a replacement battery that should be here in 3 days. :)

Can you get a larger than 9-cell battery for the DV2799. I'm not sure if they're in the same family. Thanks.

Well, I receive the replacement battery and put it into my laptop and it does exactly the same thing. I mean its not a horrible thing to have to put a little piece of paper to make it fit snug, but it does bother me a little that I got a brand new laptop and I would have to do that. What are your all thoughts on the matter? Should I just keep it? return it? I am leaning on keeping it at the moment.

My 12 cell has a bit of play in it as well, but it's never lost the connection. I've used it in both the 6000 series and the 2700 series with no problems.

ya, I called and they are willing to have it replaced but I am debating if its worth it going thru that and possibly getting the exact same thing. Another which is minor is that when picking up the latop, the cd in one corner squeeks if i tough it on one end (not the other). Maybe overall, its just the HP workmanship/build quality people are referring to and not direct defects?

I got a great idea! You need some of that one tape that is sticky on one side and has a thin layer of foam. Well I have this issue also with my laptop. It doesn't really bother me that much....or at all, but if it did I would do the following. Place the tape on the side that is on the inside of the battery (not the sides). Either place a two very small pieces on each end of the "top" or one thin piece along the "top" of the battery. I think this will take care of this minor issue.

Can I please have the model number of your 12-cell battery? I desperately need to buy one, but I can't find the exact model.

I have the older dv1000 laptop and have both the 6 cell and 12 cell for it. both fit snugly and does not move at all. Good luck with your new battery!

I usually dont call for support until the laptop is useless. I had issues with LEDs and other things but i never call HP until my laptop is unfunctional (like a laptop that doesnt want to charge the battery, which happened to me 5 times). To me personally, not having my laptop for a week or two is far more painfull than a loose battery or LED issue.

    Hey,
For those with the 12 cell battery, how long does the battery life last on average under regular usage (websurfing, music, word processing..)? I'm reading that it lasts up to 6 hours, but what is the battery life really?

    Thanks!

So you returned a laptop that was perfect in every way, but because the battery rattled a bit? :) Well, my brand new dv2700 has the 6-cell, and it is about 99.9% snug. I just put few pieces of black tape inside, and it is perfect...

All of mine are snug aswell. I cant see how it can go loose...

Expect 3-5hrs depending on your power settings and usage. You might be able to reach 6, but at the very lowest brightness and no wireless/BT lol. They always lie and rate the batterys life higher
