Hi, I just got my 8510p and I thought I would do a clean install. So following the stickied guide, I got Vista Business 32-bit up and running. But now i'm stuck installing drivers and the SwSetup folder that I burnt is really confusing. I've been able to get some devices to 'function properly' like the card reader and synaptic touchpad, but I'm lost when it comes to the other stuff. So if anyone has any experience with a clean vista install on a 8510p, please provide some advice (like what needs to be install and whatnot), it'll be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks. :)

All I did was find my ATI catalyst center and install it. Then you have the normal resolutions

I mean other parts of the computer is missing drivers and stuff. I have unknown devices in device manager, other component says drivers not install etc. I looked on the HP website for drivers and they don't seem to have drivers for stuff like fingerprint reader and whatnot. Should I just install the ATI catalyst centre, go online, and hope vista can search for them on the net?

Look for the Application and Driver Recovery DVD that should have come with the notebook. Just pop it in and you can pick and choose which drivers/applications you want to install.

Yeah the HP Driver/App DVD is great. I used it after my clean Vista install and it auto reloaded everything. Painless!

I've got the same problem as well.
ive fresh installed everything and the VGA driver is the only thing that doesn't work right now. I installed Catalyst 3.10 for radeon 2600 off AMD's website and yet when I reboot the comptuer still doesnt recognize the vga. Can anyone help?
Am I downloading the right drivers?
    Thanks

Yeah you need to mod the drivers to get them to work.

Is using the mod drivers worth it? I mean is there noticeable performance gain over stock HP drivers or is it just a 'look i'm using modded drivers' kind of thing?

When was the last time HP updated their drivers? If they're the same ones from July, then yeah there will be a difference. Current Cats are 7.10 I think.

Well I've just spent my first day with vista and I'm not real fond of it. Does anyone know if the sticked guide works for XP as well (ie. Is the drivers cd jsut specific to vista)?

Just to check with other 8510p owners, when you run your finger along the back edge of the notebook (with the screen open), is there a slight dip between the top 'platform' and the casing? especially in the area around the hp logo.
