Ok I just got my new DV2000t and its pretty darn nice actually. I havent really gotten a chance to play with it too much but there is something that I am already obsessing about. The new quickplay buttons make noise when you push em. It sounds like when you don't have a working soundcard in your desktop and its reverts to the pc speaker. Its really quite annoying. There isn't anywhere that I can find that allows you to mute the sound either. I tried HP online support and their only idea was to uninstall and reinstall the quickplay application. So yeah... if anyone has any idea how to shut these buttons up... please let me know.

If I wasn't studying for the bar and had time to do a proper review of the laptop I'd do it for ya'll.

Anyway back to trying to figure out this **** thing...

The keyboard is similar to the dv1000. The screen is brighter than my old dv1000 but then again my dv1000 had screen issues. I am still trying to get used to the touchpad. It doesn't glide really well.

I haven't played with the webcam yet.

I like the quickplay buttons but I just don't like the sounds.

Law school is worth it if you don't have anything else to do :p

Hey Someguy_NYC - Do your quickplay buttons make noise when ya push em? Turning up or turning down the volume is kinda sucks as well with the quickplay.

is the dv1000 keyboard nice? i never got a chance to use that model..

im sure there is a way to take out the sounds, if mine comes and i cna't get them off i will tweak. As far as the bloatware, its just somthing that you have to take 2 days and clean out. I know that if worse comes to worse, circuit city does a "pc setup" that cleans out all that crap.

If someone would take pics it would be awesome!

    Thanks,
    Samuel

Pictures would be appreciated, I love the specs on this laptop, but the wavy design on the back concerns me. Is it a light etch, or as in some pictures, like a deep, white giant American Express card border. :)

I have seen it in a Bestbuy close to my house. Everything is very nice on it. I really like the design that everyone is worrying about. It sets that computer apart from other laptops in the store. I will be ordering mine tomorrow. The build is great, keyboard is solid and keys seem to be of good quality (feel like they wont fall apart). The one in the stores Quick Play did make a beeping sound but it was very low sound.

Eager to see real world pics of it.

On sidenote, anyone considering purchasing the 12-cell battery for the DV2000? There are small images of it on the HP website. It seems rather odd shaped, forcing the notebook to slant up from the back.

First of all, those waiting for a review, i plan to do one when i get my DV2000z. It is in production right now!

As far as the 12-cell battery goes, i ordered one because it gives me better battery life, keeps the notebook cooler becasue it is raised and i like it better for typing.

HP spec. DV2000t would have 8:45 hr for 12 cell battery.

fizzleation, could you test if that is true?

    Seems DV2000 have better deal both Z & T. They offer $100 instant + $50 MBR + free shipping. V3000 only gives 100 MBR.

Price differences are just $100 now ($1086 vs. $970) plus DV2000 has web cam.

$20 more charge on HP CPU upgrading, but $19 less on HD and WiFi

14.1 inch screen, no dedicated, and X2 energy efficient processor... it is made for battery life, thats for sure. I could see those #'s, but who knows. We'll see when/if i ever get the thing...

    Just got my dv2000t [2300e 1.66, 80g, 1g, BT, 12-cell]

    First impressions:
    - Beautiful machine. Looks sleek out of the box - much better than anything else I've seen so far (including the vaios)
    - Keypad is pretty good. Compares favorably with the Thinkpads (not quite as good, but a better, firmer feel than the dv1000t; easily better than the Dells, Sonys and Macbooks I tested. btw, I have pretty big hands)
    - Screen's ok. Has a decent amount of leakage
    - Had it running all day plugged in (so no batt test). Feels a little warm under the left palm. The bottom is cool though.
    - Makes a ridiculously loud whirring noise and the entire machine vibrates during the first few seconds of loading a cd
    - the 12 cell battery actually raises the laptop at a nice angle. Definitely nice for desk use. Not sure how this'll work out in an airplane
    - HP bloatware is awful. Takes a long time to get through.
    - Feels a little heavy with the 12-cell, I think bordering on 6 lbs
    - Cam's got pretty good resolution. Already used it with Skype and MSN.

Oh, and best of all --- HP had the 12th listed as the ship date. They had it ready for shipment in China on the 9th and it arrived in MA at 10.30 am on the 12th. Extremely happy with their delivery.

[on a side note, I was deciding between this and the z61t --- would've preferred the lenovo for the keyboard and durability, but the release date is just too far off and the hp beats the thinkpad on price and style]

I just got physical touch with DV2000t @ Fry's. The piano paint is not that bad as I thought, at least I don't see my finger prints quite often.
The mouse pad and button feel much better than DV1000 and V2000Z, the button feels much solid to me. DV2000t has two mics, one on both side of web cam. The cam quality is so so, the light is too strong in store, can tell it is really a 1.3 M Pixel quality.
The quick play some how use XP, this makes me little bit supprise since I never use it before. It starts an XP(I saw a short XP boot display), and if I power up the machine, it does XP hibernate, and start the main system.

I wonder, if they use XP as quick play OS, it should be a simplified configuration. Our undervolt fans won't be able do anything about it since it looks like a blackbox XP. But they still claim 4:15 hrs play, how would they do this? Humm...

If we can plug RightMark data into quick play, wouldn't be a longer play? RightMark can output the FID/VID setup data, anyone know how to replace to windows XP data?

I found it in Plano TX/US. I think it is available in DFW area. Another guy found it in BestBuy, but I don't see it in DFW's bestbuy. It should be just arrived at Fry's, outpost.com doesn't have it yet.

Somehow, I don't like the Compact PCMCIA slot. Because I want to have a Mogo bluetooth mouse, it can plugin the Card Bus slot for charging, but now I can't have it. Faint.

Configureing the Z (AMD) vs. T (intel) the Intel version came out cheaper with similar specs 1.66 Core Duo vs. Turion x2 with 512 (I don't really get the 256 vs 512) any reason the AMD version would be better?

    both have
1 gig ram, processors listed above, DVD burner, 80 gig hd, wireless + bluetooth

    only differences I see were
    a. the processors
    b. the T uses 400mhz ram vs. 533mhz ram for Z
    c. Z uses NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 where as T uses Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 (wouldn't think there would be much of a difference between the 2 because both are intergrated)

anything worth the roughly $40 difference in there?

There is a lot of difference between the 2 graphics cards. The Nvidia is by far the best integrated graphics solution and should quite easily outperform the GMA 950. It should easily be twice as fast.

The T and Z both use the same memory. Either 533MHz or 667MHz.

I wonder if someone can compare the performance of Z and T under the same configuration except graphic card.
HP only sells Turion x2 1.6 G, but Core Duo 2.16 G. Should we expect AMD win?

I was going to buy a Turion X2, and I had a original Turion64 w/ 6 cell. I did not like the battery life the 35w CPU consumed (and especially with a 14" screen). Undervolting the hell out of it got me better results. I could make it through a 2 hour class...
The Turion was a trooper, but I went back to Intel for the mobile side. The Turion X2 just doesn't have much to convince me in to buying it...
AMD did not win the last war of the mobile CPU's....but they did have highlights.
Highlights include....ferrari notebooks, and cheapest notebooks have been in history.
AMD beat Intel in to the ground with CPU pricing. Often users would have to choose between a Turion or a Celeron cpu in the same price range (or slower Pentium M). I went AMD because I craved more power then a Celeron, yet did not have the cash for Intel. Intel learned this and the Core Duo notebooks are coming out at similar costs as AMD Turion X2.
AMD is getting their...but they won't be their atleast until their next cpu release after this Turion64 X2 release.
Offering Nvidia integrated graphics on the notebooks is a plus. Broadcom wireless card's are not bad, and the name is becoming more mainstream.
Intel win's a lot because they are the mobo chipset, NIC, WiFi, and CPU. AMD has a spots their OEM's can fall on. (If HP uses a ****ty Wifi card on a AMD notebook, everyone will forever hate the experience, etc)

    Hey Rellik
I happen to (at this moment) have both a dv1000t AND a dv2000t. I'm returning the dv1000t once I've moved everything off of it, and onto my new laptop.

Sound on the dv2000 is substantially louder, and clearer then it is on the dv1000. I'm actually surprised at the difference.

I wouldn't exactly have it handle duties for my next disco party, but for listening to DVD's, mp3's etc. they are amazingly loud and clear! It's actually one of the nice surprises of this dv over it's older sib.

Just sharing a HP support story.

My friend sent back his brand new DV8000t after having a defective unit. Display flashed and the operating system said it was not a genuine copy of windows. When he got it back, HP convienently forgot to install any drivers. They did a great job installing windows, but he wouldn't have been able to download any drivers without a second computer.

HP does have better service than a few other companies, but their support is still subpar and leaves much to be desired. Their policy of having you return the unit at every sign of a problem creates inconvienence in downtime for their users. If you want service, it is best to go with a boutique store.
