So happy I exchanged this. That 1280x800 sceen was a disgrace.

Now anyone want to give me some last minute tips?

I am going to make HP restore disks, then burn the SWSetup file to another disk. Then I am going to reboot and insert the Windows Anytime Upgrade disk.

This will let me delete the HP partition and do a fresh install right?

Then I will make recovery disks.

Yes, use the HP program for recovery disks.
The 1680*1050 screen option is the reason I bought the HP dv5t.

so, this sound in the fan is on this new laptop you just received? If so, i would not do your clean install until you are EXTREMELY sure you want to keep this on e, and put up with the fan, or if you want to call HP and tell them about a defect. I don't want to hear later that you decided to exchange it, AFTER you already did the clean install and then have to Redo the thing with the recovery discs.

Not sure I care what you want to hear about.

Is this a defect? I can't really tell.

Anyone got any idea what this sound might be? It definitely sounds a bit off.

The only noise that comes from my notebook is the fan, or clicking from the hard drive.

The higher screen res seems unnecessary to me. I mean besides on the desktop, will you really notice that much of a difference in games? Plus you'd get crappy frame rate

You haven't heard of Vista's "hard drive thrashing," I assume.
