So I am very new to the software aspect of starting up a computer. I know HP loads a lot of bloatware, and I want to remove most of it. But I also want to keep other helpful things, like HP updated so I can keep my laptop updated. Also, I paid for Norton, so I don't want that wiped off my computer. I'm making windows back ups as I type...essentially, I want to be able to choose what gets wiped.
Also, my computer came loaded with windows 7 premium, but I have an ultimate CD. Should I install that instead of the back up discs?
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

HP provides a minimum install option which you can access from the recovery mechanism. This leaves HP's updating tools, all drivers and various programs like Cyberlink which HP uses to operate system devices. However, Norton is not installed (for good reason! it is the single greatest offender as far as dv6t bloatware is concerned). You should be able to access it from the SWSetup folder, but I'm not entirely sure how that works as I have not done it.

Ok thanks for the reply! So all essentials are pretty much kept, that's good. The SWsrtup folder remains after minimal image restore?

Yes, it's still there... but I don't see Norton.

Can't you just download Norton from their website and apply your key?

Any downside to just manually deleting the bloatware you do not want other than taking an hour? That is what I'm going to do when mine comes in, since there is a few programs I want to keep.

After the MSI, you can simply put in the Ultimate Key in the Anytime Upgrade.
Just wait a few minutes while it converts your Home Premium to an Ultimate. -

Norton is in the InetSec folder in SWsrtup

Edit: nevermind. Fixed by going into boot menu.
Just got my new dv6--I want to remove some bloatware, but I also want to keep some applications. Help?
