And it is amazing!! It lowered my temps roughly 15 degrees on the GPU whild playing starcraft 2 maxed out. Here is a screenshot of the temps with the cooler while I was playing starcraft for 1 hour at 1080P on Ultra settings (big 4v4 games).

    wow very nice

just curious, what framerate do you get with all the settings maxed out ? ive only played a few short games on low settings but its around 80-100 framerate then drops to about 60-70 later in the game during fights and stuff (medium details, low graphics)

On everything maxed out (with vsync) I get 25-30 FPS. It is very playable, but you can tell it isn't flowing perfectly though. I have found that the game runs fantastically though at these settings (I run the game in fullscreen, but put it in window mode to get a screenshot...)

I get 45-60 FPS and it is silky smooth and very beautiful!

I am on performance mode in coolsense...

2 holes above the lowest position on the far left, and 1 hole above the middle (y axis) directly in the middle of the x axis.

Exactly where I have my fans too. Does a good job keeping the temperature from going up. A steady 55 Celsius.

i'm not sure what the best position is for the fans, but I have one of them right at the top left because that feels like the hottest part of the laptop to me.

I just got the U2, what a piece of crap, after two hours of using it one of the fans start to make some noise, and then stopped working, i tried to rotate the fan with my hand it then worked but not as good as the other fan.

i tested my temps, i didn't notice ANY difference, this was really shock to me based on the huge reviews on the internet on this item.

Anyone have some ideas to mod this item instead of the two crappy fans that came with it?

it's not hard to gut out the usb connector and power it using an ac to dc adapter, but I'd check the power ratings first. Also it helps to raise the front of the cooler a bit since you should place the fans near the bottom and it's not as effective if it's not propped up with adaquate airflow. But truthfully it's hard to expect actual difference in temperatures of the components from sensors. Coolers really only helps me b/c it makes the area to the left of the touchpad bearable.

Your best is to repaste, add heatsinks, and setting coolsense to coolest while forcing cpu to not throttle, other than that, just keep the AC on full blast :p.

thanks for the tips, this is exactly what i did.

I got a pair of fans from an old electronics shop, the shop has a lot of used fans, but the one i chosen are very good, i tested a lot of fans until i chosen two Korean not Chinese for only two dollars, i connected them to an old 12V adapter, and the result is amazing, 6~10 degrees easily.

how would you be able to set coolsense on coolest while forcing cpu to not throttle? to my knowledge, the coolest setting disables turbo boost, correct? Thanks.

Interesting question Mjl2116, I'm guessing it's the same thing as performance mode in coolsense?

Anyway, I just bought a Cooler Master Storm SF 19 17" Laptop Cooler with USB 2.0 from Amazon. It's far from a portable cooler, but the fan speed beats the hell out of the U2 and I have seen reviews where it cools up to 15-20 degrees. The downside it is powered by a wall wart, hence the better fanspeed. The upside for me is I can keep my periphials plugged into the built in hub.

There is a version with usb 3.0 but that is almost $30 more so F that, not really worth the extra $$ for me.

Once I get it, if it dosen't work as well as I would like, I'm going to create some cardboard templates to focus the air on the vents on the bottom of my DV6, as well as the air intake on the back.

I'll let you guys know how well it works once I get it.

so i bought myself a U3, positioned the fans under the grills at the bototm of the laptop.

Temperatures on idle are down 1-2C, on load, 4-6C.

But the real reason why I wanted a cooler was so the left palmrest could be cool.

This doesn't solve the problem entirely because the palmrest is metallic, and heat conducts quickly, and convects upwards.... so its still quite warm =.="

ive gotten teh U3 and it does help a BIT, idle times just sitting on my desk were like 55C but with the U3 on max they drop to like 45C,

when gaming though, i didnt see much of a difference. temps dropped only like 5C or less

but when cool sense was turned on coldest setting, it cooled it a bit more maybe like 7-8 degrees more then just cool sense by itself (which is significant to begin with)

Yes they are... The hottest vent is the bottom left one, second hottest is the upper middle.

being able to actually aim the fans makes this type of cooler pretty ideal for this laptop

I'm thinking about getting Antec notebook cooler 200. But I'm worried that it may not have much effect on the left palm rest area since the fan is in the middle.

    What do you guys think?

hmmm I've had one of these U2's for some time. The only way its going to lower anything 15c is if you put it over a pan full of ice....The stock fans aren't too bad but NOTHING like the Bytec fans, which spool up like jet engines. Bout the same size so I moved them to the U2. Tho I had to use headphones, my Envy 15 finally quit slow cooking my left palm. I have a friend with a GatewayFX with the unlocked 9000 or whatever chip in it. He built his own cooler similar in design to the U2, but after mounting his fans where they would shoot straight into the vents, he used some insulation stripping like they put around doors from the local hardware store, and made a pattern to fit the bottom of his laptop. With the stronger fans and the bottom 'sealed' his temps really did drop like a stone. In fact, when he dials up his fans (they are thermaltakes with a speed controller) the air flows out of the laptop's exhaust with the laptops internal fan hardly even turning if at all (hard to tell). It's by far the most effective laptop cooler I've seen. Probably the best stay home gamer's cooler I've seen, was built by a guy out of plexiglass. it has a bottom/side section that screws onto it and the air inlets are from the back and sides. It's nice cause you can set it in your lap and game in a recliner :) Inside the box he mounted a pair of custom fans with controllers like my friend, but also wired up an external usb panel for slots. I suppose with the door insulation trick, it would about as efficient as my buddie's U2 rip off, the advantage is that its MUCH quieter with the fans inside the 'box', and much better in your lap. It's heavier tho sooo there are tradeoffs.
