Every time on boot into Windows, I get a warning message telling me that my computer exceeds the Smart Adapter's power capabilities, etc.

It further says that the system performance is designed to vary with the available power, but that my computer exceeds the smart adapter's capacity or something to that effect.

I have a USB mouse, USB keyboard, and USB external hard drive plugged into the Envy. Any ideas why I am getting this message???

My adapter appears to be the correct 120W power adapter that goes with the Envy system. Any help is appreciated.

Where did you get the adapter in question? Directly from HP or through another source?

The adapter came in the Envy17 box manufactured by HP. I purchased the laptop from Newegg. It seems to be the standard Envy 17 box.

    This is the message:

"The Smart AC Adapter connected will power your computer, but potentially at a reduced performance level. Your computer is designed to vary performance as needed when a smaller capacity Smart AC Adapter is connected. Resource intensive tasks may cause your system not to perform at its highest level with a smaller capacity Smart AC Adapter. Please connect a higher capacity Smart AC Adapter for full performance."

If your unit is under warranty, simply give HP a call and they will send you out a new adapter.

Just got in contact with HP. Apparently, my Newegg-shipped model came with the incorrect power supply.

My power supply was 100-240v, 19.5 volt and 6.15 Amp, and it should have been the 120w model. Just an FYI for those who bought from Newegg. You may want to check out your power supply.

I'm just curious, is HP going to cover you on this?

Yup. New Power Supply is in the mail!

Also, I arranged it all through the online chat tech support. Quite helpful, actually.

Obviously, you'll want to have your Envy registered beforehand.

Awesome! I'm glad to hear at least someone is happy with HP's support.

Per the HP Envy 17 owner's thread, it sounds like at least one other user also got the wrong power supply with his model. This could be a fairly widespread issue.

I'd check your power supply with what ought to have shipped with it then.

Same. My power supply is 19V/4.74A 90W max. What is yours? I usually get the message right after plugging in, but it goes away after a little bit or re-plugging in.
