Installing it was simple enough and I have a fresh install of Windows 7 but somehow the system just doesn't feel... speedy, enough (which is odd as i've never used a SSD before in my life). I have ran ATTO Disk Benchmark and these are the results:

Are these normal? Have I done something wrong? I thought the speeds were supposed to be a little quicker

Thanks for any help you guys can give me!

Possibly you are limited to SATA II speeds, but still looks a little low even for SATA II, but I doubt it would be that much quicker anyway.

I have attached the results for Corsair Force GT, which are about as advertised by them. Samsung advertises speeds, which should be higher than you are getting especially on read. There is one thing to check: does your laptop support SATA 3? If only SATA 2 is supported then that is your limit due to interface limitation rather than hardware attached.

Hmmm, that is a bit concerning, thanks for the reply :)

Thanks for the reply, your speeds are much, much quicker than what im getting. I must admit, i'm not entirely sure what version of SATA the Envy 1xxx hardware uses, but being a couple of years old I'm going to guess it is SATA 2 rather than SATA 3, so hardware limitations could be the cause. My second benchmark was marginally quicker but I still didn't get over 250MB/second

I really doubt you'd notice the difference from 250mb/s to 500mb/s in day to day stuff. You'd have to really be paying attention in day to day stuff like browsing or gaming. I throw SATA III SSD's on SATA II without even thinking about it, as I know I'll only notice the difference if I'm intentionally looking for it or doing benchmarks.

Yeah you're probably right, thanks :)

I still think something is up though, I mean I was reading an old thread on here from 2010 in regards to an SSD and the Envy 14 and in that they were talking about boot times being about 7-10 seconds, well timing mine it takes 20+ and I have barely anything installed on the drive, other than the OS and a couple of programs. I'm not THAT fussed because 20 second boot is still half of what I was getting with my old hard drive but I just can't help the voice in the back of my head telling me that if i've paid for something to be quick, it should be quick... ya'know?
