well even after all the bad user reviews i decided to get one from newegg. this one will be a gift for my mom, but im going to test it out, and post a mini review here. if i like it ill probally order a second one for my self. i got the 599.99 vista config. i really hate linux, but i know vista is going to cripple this machine. has anyone succesfully installed xp?also is there a big performance improvment with video playback in xp? well stay tuned for my mini (lol) mini-note review.

Lots of us have, check out the "just got my mininote today, it sucks" thread for a detailed guide. It really doesn't suck at all. The default SuSe install is awful but with XP on it the thing is incredible. Really fast, no errors, great build quality, beautiful screen, great keyboard.

Vista might actually be OK on it too. Give it a shot!

I ordered one via my office's HP supplier and got a slightly better price, but I may have to wait as long as a month to take delivery  The main app that I want to run on it is DigiKam, which needs a Unix-like OS, so it's probably Kubuntu or some other flavor of Debian Linux for me.

Image quality is kind of important to me, and if the extra layer of plastic over the screen annoys me, I may be interested in simply cutting the center out, leaving only the black border.
